The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

Zombiekiller - Your 28-2 appears to have the lowest serial number in Allen-Frame's database. You might want to PM him with the full number.

By any chance is anybody aware of the lowest serial number for a 28-2 and the highest serial number for a 28? Just from this database the gap is around 17,000 or so.

Here is my newest, 28-2:

Was out looking at a 28 HP he other day and noticed that it had the letters DPS stamped on the side. Thinking it stands for Department of Public Safety. Anyone know which state or dept might have done this. Will this stamping hurt the value. If I remember right there was alot of holster ware. Will try to get a picture of it. Thinking he might want somewhere between 250 and 300.00 for it.

HP FOR SALE

I was in Pensacola, FL August 31st and stopped into Carter's Pawn Shop and they have a Highway Patrolman 28-2 6" N series in great condition priced at $450.00. Nice wood grips on it. I thought about getting it but didnt want to have to drive back 3 days later to get it. I thought I would mention it if anyone was near there and wanted to pick up an HP.:D

Most likely, an issue sidearm to the Texas Dept. Of Public Safety. Four-inch 28's were standard issue until S&W stopped making them. Then they went to 586's as the last issue wheelguns.

They were marked on the side beneath the cylinder and usually had "DPS- then a number."
