The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

Guess I'll add this one to this humongous thread even though you've seen it in another thread or two. It is my only Highway Patrolman, a 28-2, customized and converted to .45ACP by Marc Krebs.

Nice job ! Would it be possible to see the rear sight better ? Thanx in advance !

Phil.

That's what I was thinking but wanted clarification

That's definitely a 6" Model 27. Doc is a great guy, but he has so many N-frames now, he's starting to lose track of them......

I know for a fact that he has a high condition 6" model 28 though. Want to venture a guess as to how I know?

I have a S&W 28-2 4" with a SN N177XX am I reading this right that it would be in the early production of the 1969 through 1972?

thanks for the time and help

You're probably right. Mine is an"N" 5 digit serial number somewhat higher than yours and lettered as shipping in November of 1972.

Looked at a Model 28-2 nickel plated 4" barrel S189XXX serial at a LGS today. Refinish, hammer and trigger are nickel but really good job. tiny amount of finish missing on the back strap, good 1970's football targets. They are asking $879 which I think is absurd.

What's a reasonable offer? I think they've had it on consignment a couple months.

550 would be the very top end in my book, 19, and that would only be if I fell in love with the thing....the exception would be if it were one of the original nickel guns, but I don't thing that number is in the range IIRC.

28-2 6" barrel S/N N249xxx With the right grips

My new to me 28-2 6" barrel S/N N249xxx.

Correcting the shameful act of posting with the wrong grips on the gun :)

Thanks to a member on here (who's screen name I don't know) I now have a set of Target grips.
Their patina matches the gun's nicely.

Newbie: I just bought a Higway Patrolman

Hello to you all.

What a great forum :-)

Just became a member on the site, because I bought my first S & W - a Model 28-2 ... Highway Patrolman! YES! It is in great shape, and has a four digit N-serial no. I can see that my gun is made at the earliest in 1969 ....

My question: Does anybody know the number of guns produced each year? I recon that my gun is maybe from 1969 or 1970.

I love the pics of all your HP's - I will post some pics as soon as the papers clear. We have a very restrictive gun policy here in Denmark, so it can take a while to get the gun home from the dealer.

With the gun comes an original box, but the box is dated some time in 1955? So it is probably not the box my gun was sold with.

Best regards
Lars
