Number 11

Hey Boys,
I just added #11 to my collection of Model 28 Highway Patrolmen! It's a nice one! Looks like it could be unfired! It came with the original box and papers but no tools.
Dick

Good Golly, Molly!
My lucky day! I was just down straightening up my safe to make room for my new Model 28 and discovered I had twelve 28s instead of eleven!
Dick

Im new, Hi Everybody

Thought I would add my HP 28-2 story to this awesome thread.
I was a inpatient in a hospital and I over heard my roommate talking to his wife about generating
some money and they were talking about selling an old gun they had. I immediately spoke up and
said, I would be interested in buying it if it was in good shape..So his wife smuggled it in and I took
a very quick look at it and said I would buy it..Like I stated in the beginning it's a HP Model 28-2,
6", blued, stock grips numbered to the gun, and I'm no expert on this but, looks to me to have not
seen much action if any at all, even the grips look show case new. Plus, it came with original holster.
No, box or papers though:( s/n: S234** DOB '63 '64
Love this thread, I have learned so much about my gun here, I had no idea, how popular it was until
I come upon this thread. Thanks to all contributors. Lots of useful and educating info. I may have to sell this gun after all..Anyone have a ball park figure on what it would be worth? I know pics aren't as good as looking at it in person.

Today I bought a 28-2 serial# N563xxx 4" barrel, it has walnut target stocks and a smooth combat trigger that I didn't know they offered, the gun is probably 95% slight holster wear and doesn't appear to have been shot much and locks up tight and has a very nice smooth action. maybe a late 1979 gun?

Who would ever think going to the hospitol could result in a purchase of a great S&W revolver. Great story and nice looking gun.

The serial number on mine is N55XXXX. I had it lettered and it shipped in April 1980, so you're very close on the date.

These are some of the best revolvers made by S&W. Mine is serial number N269XXX . I love the way it shoots, feels, the fit and finish. It's simply amazing. It does not have the deep bluing of my Model 27 but the fit and finish is just as good in all other areas.

I recently purchased a 28-2 in good condition N2475**. Really good handling gun. It shoots as good as my Model 57.

Posted elsewhere on the forum but wanted to memorialize here as well.

Model 28-2 with 4" barrel. Early 5 digit serial number: N418XX. Early 70's manufacture.

It is remarkable to me, outside of the cylinder size, how closely Ruger's Security Six series resemble the HP.

I am pleased to announce I can finally add to this thread. I recently purchased a 5 digit serial # N159XX 28-2 4". I've been looking for a clean one for a couple years. I was told 1971 DOB. It came with factory targets from I believe the 80s, I put a set of smooth targets on it I bought online.

Here's my 28-2 that I picked up a couple of weeks ago. SN N526XXX

In the last few days I've changed the grips,

and was able to find a pretty nice S&W holster for it. Now all I need is a T Grip. Oh, and of course, it's a good shooter.

Another 4 screw

I found this the other day and brought it home. Model 28 marked 4 screw w/original grips numbered to the gun. S 183749, early 1958. A little holster-worn, but that just gives it more character. Serial number-wise, it looks to be no more than 50 guns away from snw19_357's 4"28 on page 5.

In my year of acquiring the S&Ws I can say that my 28 has done the most shooting . It is not the fanciest S&W that I have gotten, but it is just a hoss.

I finally got some better photo equipment like table top lights. Now if I can get some time to shoot some pics , I can add some to these threads.

I had been looking for a nice 6" HP to go with my 4" for a while. I found one in nice condition with the correct grips. The surprise was the serial number of the 6", N15130, is only 64 numbers from my 4", N15066. They are probably as close as I will ever get to consecutive numbered guns.
