The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

I agree. Looking at the classifieds, it looks like decently priced grips go quick. I guess I'll just keep my eyes open.

Brian - The diamond center magna and target stocks are harder to find and there is a premium for them - especially the target stocks.
Sometimes you can find them at a local sporting goods or pawn shop, also at some gun shows. Some even go up for auction on Ebay - just do a search for Smith & Wesson grips. Just make sure that you look for N Frame size stocks for your Highway Patrolman.
There are companies that make reproduction stocks, but if it was me, I'd try to find the real thing if I could - sometimes you can luck up on a pair that is in pretty good shape for about the same price as the reproductions.
Good luck,
Gary

Thanks for the tips Gary. Unfortunately I live in the SF Bay Area. Gun Shops and Shows around here are nothing like in other parts of the country. Slim pickings to say the least.

Here is my latest aquisition. Went to the local gunstore yesterday and found this beauty. 4" Mod 28-2, N102XXX, unfired in box with the cleaning kit unopened. Came with box no papers. I probably paid too much for it but I could not let it go. The staggs are mine, it came with the original magnas.

I just picked up a model 28-3 4" today . It looks sweet has the box and all the paperwork. serial #N956XXX.

A shop I visit once or twice a month had a matched pair of 6" M28-2s in the case when I stopped in last week, at prices I thought were a bit low for the area. This one, S2623XX and an N-prefix. I put money down on this one and picked it up today. The N-gun was gone by the time I got back.

I will keep my eyes open for a pair of late diamond magnas, but I have been wanting to experiment with duplicating the original .357 158 gr. lead bullet loads and I can't think of a better test platform with the current Hogues.

Some kind of record?

Now with 50,000 views, and more than 300 posts, is this thread some kind of record?
Little did I know when I started this , where it would end up.

Congratulations to all you H.P. owners, keep the faith.

This is the one I got yesterday, posted on another thread. SR # N8##. I like it a lot. I have a 6" with the standard grips I got in 73, new for 100 bucks, also. Sorry for the bad pic. The Sebbie came out better.

Sorry, no pics but I have a 28-2, 4 inch, SN N2230xx. When the camera is in working order, I will post a pic.

This is my 28-2, 6" barrel. The grips aren't original to the gun, unfortunately :(. The serial number is S282xxx. I took this one out to the range on Sunday for the first time, and I was blown away by how nice a shooter and how accurate it is! :D
