The Ultimate Model 27 Thread!

The stocks are beautiful (as is the gun). Who made them?

Thanks,
Bill

I just bought this one yesterday. My first one in nickel (stocks were installed today - not original):

Hammer,
They feel the same to me (one Nill and the two real S&W Coke's). The Nill was 1/3rd the cost to me. All are non-matching to the revolver.

I just found another 27-2 in nickel at a fair price.

Hello GA 1911
I figured that German Pride of workmanship would determine how close they came to our Original Coke style stocks, so it does not surprise me that they are an exact duplicate. They certainly look nice and I would say that the Grain has more definition than the Original Coke's had. I bought the pair shown from a Guy in Ohio and although they fit my Pre-27 Good, the Grain was no where near matching in color contrast or Grain structure. I will have to add a set of Nill's to my Bucket List for the future. That Pair of Nickel 27's are drop dead Gorgeous that you have Nice score . Regards, Hammerdown

I have no idea how I made it this long without posting in this thread.

My 5 inch 27-2 that I find in a pawn shop about 6 years ago.

She doesn't enjoy the 27 as much as my autos, but she's absolutely savage on targets with a heavy .38 load.

My wonderful 27, dating to around 1960, I bought in 1963. I quickly added a white outline rear sight, and the target Cokes. L.L. Bean had to custom make the sheepskin case as their largest model was too small for the 8 3/8' bbl. A real tack driver and my all-time favorite gun........

Do you remember what you paid for those Coke's ? They are a drop dead gorgeous set !

OK, I guess every four years I'll drop in and post another photo on this thread.

Most recent (18 months ago) 27/357 acquisition. This is a 20 year revolver. That's how long I looked for a 6.5" variation with a ramp sight at a price I wanted to pay. Has the the barrel and sight, but I gave up on finding one at a reasonable price and bought this one. Then had to drop another $150 in gunsmithing to repair damage done by previous owner. Shows some holster wear, and like I said, I paid WAY too much for it. It's only money.

PS: Serial makes it 1956. Some question the insert/outline sights as original but as I understand it these were optional starting in 1953 and I see nothing to suggest the gun has been modified. A historical letter may confirm originality but then again maybe not and I already have too much invested in this thing to feel good about spending an additional $50 on it. Or maybe at this point the question should be what's another 50 bucks? It's old enough to make the letter potentially interesting.

Oh, hell, now I'm thinking about it.

I had this picture on my computer to show the presentation grips. Sorry it's not the whole gun. It's a 27-5, 6.5" barrel that started out to be the "Outnumbered". They did not sell well and this one is one of 234 units that were completed without the planned decorations. It's a great shooting gun. I know I posted pics of this gun before, but not, I think on this thread.

Couple questions:
1) Which wood are the grips made out of in the first pic, Kurac's work?
2) Why in the world are there bullet impactations all over the block wall perpendicular to the firing line?
