The 'unofficial' 58 Club

A 658 along the lines of the 58 "Classic" would be very interesting. Maybe even a 3 1/2" round butt 658, sort of like a big Model 65 3".

I think that you are on to something here Jay....

There was one series of FIXED sight 629's....I wonder if S&W still has the frames in stock....I would be first in line to buy a 658 with a 2 5/8 or 3" barrel. :D

I have a 3" 657 and love it, so a 658 would be a step up for carry use.

Work sent me to Fairbanks to teach troops for 2 wks, course had this weekend off so did some grouse hunting with the 58. 210 LSWC at 15 yds did the trick. Course I also keep it stroked with some 265 gr LFN for big stuff JIC.

Hmmm, must be some pretty tough Grouse up there. You sure you had enough gun? Getting through and through or are you able to find the bullet? What does the expansion look like? Blood trail?;)

Timber Wolf...ya gotta remember Combat Driver gets posted to places where people shoot back and things bite...and look at the claws on that sucker....no, unless there was nothing left to eat he used just enough gun....

VG....58s aren't for everyone...you gotta really love and believe in the round...then they make sense....

Aloha,

As I recall, Daddy Warbuck's body guard(Little Orphan Annie), the Asp(?) used a 41 magnum.

If it was good enough for him, I guess it's good enough for me.

Maybe that's where I was first introduced to the 41 magnum?

For some reason, that sticks in my mind til today.

Virginity....

An acquaintance who works in a large gun shop near my home called last week asking if I would be interested in a S&W Model 58 he had on hold. Another gun had come into the shop that he liked more, could not afford both, knew I liked .41s and called me...

Basically NIB...unfired....

The gun my acquaintance took instead was a very rare 629 5"...as in no- standard Magnum profile barrel...not a Classic.

...will join the two Class A engraved 57s in the .41 Collection...

WOW Bob....a NIB 58 is quite a good find....so is a 5" 657....that is one lucky fellow you have for a friend ;)

...my error...it was 629 no- .44 Magnum not a 657....

Bob

I was just fixin to have a new gun to find....I know the 657's came in 3", 4", 6", and 8 3/8", but I have never even heard of a 5"....The lone 4" in my collection was hard enough to find....I would like to try out a 5" barrel though...

A local hock shop has a very nice nickle 58 for sale. No box and Pachmayrs. $739.00. Its in Bryan Texas. If anyone wants it, message me and I'll send you their contact information.

The 5" guns are nice and balance well....this is my 1964 5" 57 flanked by a 6" and 4", also 64s.... Doc44 has a 5" nickel...it is STUNNING...

I like the .41 mag cartridge and have both a blued and a nickel mod 58. I have 3 or 4 blued mod 57's. I generally like to shoot the 57's more than the 58's, but I can envision using the 58 as a CCW under certain circumstances. I'm a big believer in "To each his own", so enjoy what you have.

Does anyone have a new Classic 58 in the Bright Blue? I am just about tired of trying to find a decent old 58, given up and ordering one of these new ones. But I sure would like some input on them first!

Slowly getting bitten by the .41 bug I guess.

629 Snubbies....

Yup.

629-525InchGuns001.jpg

These were made for Camfour in 1998 and were not real hot sellers. It took three years for them to sell the first three hundred. So I bought 2! :) One remains unfired.

Note that in a moment of whimsy I put K-frame round butt magnas on these 629's just to show how slight the grip frames actually are. They shipped with Hogue Monogrips...

To be absolutely accurate, these are first run guns. There was a later run of these probably around 2005 or 2006 but they have the dreaded ignition key.

The fixed sight 629 is one that i really regret not buying on the spot. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid! And it wasn't hideously priced. Circa 2002 or 3. Haven't seen one since.

I had a nickel one for a while...it was as good a shooter as the no- guns. Sold it to someone in California who could not import a no-.

If you are looking for a deal Hoffman's Gun Center in Newington, Ct. had several 58-1 in stock for $599.00 a few weeks ago...That is well under wholesale...think he gets $25.00 for shipping.
