The 'unofficial' 58 Club

hi guys , I just woke up , my vintage holster was made by one of the great Calf. holster makers , CA Hoffman and son, they also made clamshells , they are also still in the leather buisness , but unsure whether they are a still making holsters

hi guys here a box of l41 magnum loads, in light these are loaded with new Starline brass and not reloads , we'll call them loads , they are loaded with 16 grs of 2400 over a caste Lyman semi wadcutter , so what to my fellow cultest load for your model 58's??

robbt,

The two loads I shoot the most out of my M58 are 5.0 grains of Hodgdon CLAYS under a Berry's 210 grain plated, and 8.0 grains of Unique under the same Berry's plated bullet. Both loads are put up in Starline brass sparked by Winchester LP primers.

The Clays load is very soft shooting and works well for giving new shooters a chance to try a .41 mag for the first time. The Unique load is very accurate and comfortably "snappy", haha.

I have used 17.5 grains of 2400 under my home cast SWC's weighing 215, 220, and 245 grains. It has given me accurate loads out of my M57, M657, and my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter. I haven't shot any of them out of my M58 yet. I imagine they would all be very stiff out of it :)

Cheers,

Rick

FYI (everyone's) there is a decent shooter grade-looking M58 on page 24 of the current Gunbroker auction list for S&W Revolvers. (Not supposed to link directly to an auction IIRC) Buy it now price of $650...I have NO affiliation with the broker, etc.

Yes they are. My LGS had 2 boxes of them sitting on the shelf last week.

He made me a good deal if I took both boxes for $50 inc tax.

How could I refuse?
:D

Robbt- If the one on GB was the one with the finger groove Pachmeyers ikor is referring to, I may be the reason you can't find the ad.

Didn't mean to snatch it from under you, but I wanted in the club too!

When I get it, I'll try to post with some pictures.

Good job! I was wondering where it went....$650 is a steal....they have been going for more than that lately (sometimes a lot more). Post your photos and ranger report when you get her in.

If it was the one I saw with the Pach's, it was pretty nice looking and a good price. Good score! Pictures are mandatory when you get it :)

Cheers,

Rick

I emailed robbt and opined that some one here had snatched it with a phone call, although neither of us was sure about that until now. :-) Conga Rats...I'da bought it except I just picked up a new DW VBOB in black so my spending cash is all gone for a while now.

Thanks guys.

One load I have shot a few of from the 58 is 6 grains of Trail Boss under a 215swc (commercial cast). Only reason I shoot these so slow is they lead when driven hard. I am working with powder coating bullets now so I can shove these same bullets or my 245swc cast to much higher velocities. My goal is to find a load that will print to point of aim at 25-yards. I'll then learn holdover for other distances. The 58 is one of my absolute favorite S&W 41mag's and I own a bunch (yes, its a incurable disease), a couple of the PC guns are in the running for favorite. I'll try to remember to post back my results, if any care for the info.

howdy SAFireman , I think so I was going to to look at the gun that I believe was in a gun shop in Sloatsburg, NY , I thought it had been sold on gun broker a couple of weeks ago if its the same gum , pm me and we'' ll compare note , robbt
