The 'unofficial' 58 Club

I've seen several shooter grade guns go for under $750 recently...never stop looking...

Bob

And when you realise you can't buy a new one for that, the older ones are classic, they won't be made anymore, & the older ones look like a bargan.
They are now a piece of history! I'd buy the older one myself!

I will keep looking but I haven't seen any sub 750 58's in my area or anywhere else for that matter. The search continues.

My first 58

I have always liked the 41 mag, I have 3, model 57's and a scoped 657 that I hunt with. This week I picked up my first model 58.
S/N, N114657 nice shape, but the pc stocks are gone. It does have some nice black washer magnas on it. The gun has one mark and a light turn line.
Like some of the posts mentioned in this thread, you don't see a lot of them around and the price was fair, OTD for 725. It shoots nice to.

I like it! I think that is a great price too!

Cheers,

Rick

Keep looking one will turn up. It's a matter of having the available money when it does.

I don't have much experience with the 41 Magnum round yet nor the N frames. But I shot the federal 210gr JHP rounds out of my new m58 that seems pretty stout.
I like the way the N Frame handles.

Hey Scot, what's with this curmudgeon stuff? ;) :D

Only old guys carry revolvers right? and as of late, the FNG's at the firehouse have been calling me 'that old cranky guy'.....I figured the curmudgeon moniker was more PC than cranky old *** ;) and to be fair, I am not really all that old :D

Three years my m58 / nickel was $699 nib. All the nib n frames were $599/$699. I can live with the loc.

Do you think the recent online presence and desire of the 41 Magnum will give the m58/4" and m57/4" new life production wise? Since its been on the back burner production wise?

I don't.

I think the reproduction of the 57 was just a temporary thing.
The .41 Magnum will remain a niche caliber and for reloaders ranks with the .32 S & W Long in terms of die sales.

It's a great cartridge but appreciated by few and I don't see that changing.

I fear you are correct that it's a "niche" caliber. I've found that it's right up there in ease of handling with the good old .44 Special & maybe delivers a bit more smack on the receiving end. Anyway those of us who apprecaite good cartridges appreciate the .41. With the Sierra 170gr jacketed hollow cavity it'll really smack deer!

I used to have a 58. The 41 mag is a great cartridge and I agree that it will forever be relegated to a niche. But for folks like us who prefer a 16 ga or 28 ga along with the 45 Colt, 7x57mm, 6.5x55 etc a niche is a great place to be. I think it is the fact the cartridge is off the beaten path is what attracts us

My three year search is over! A friend turned me onto a beautiful S series Model 58 "only" 120 miles from home. I live in SoCal where all old S&W revolvers are "Off Roster", meaning They can't be imported into the state. The pool of available guns here in the state is miniscule and those here are only allowed to be purchased through face to face "Private Party Transfer".
I get to bail it out of 10 day jail Saturday. Photos will be enroute!
