I had a weak moment and almost sold my M58. The Lord took care of me by having the potential buyer decline.

I've been trying to join this little club for over a month, and I have chased 58s everywhere I could think. Who knew there would be one at a Podunk gun show a couple hours from home? Just got done polishing her up with some Ren wax and replacing the dried up oil to slick things up. I don't think this one has been fired outside of the factory. Yoke bluing is 100%, forcing cone is clean, no burn rings I could find, and the breech end of the barrel frame is completely smut free. Grips number to the gun, and the only blemishes are where the cleaning set rubbed against the steel. Damn those things!
Wood panels look rough, but hoping that can be rectified. The checkering outline routing is pretty sloppy. Wood is bone dry.
Couple pics - no matter how many times I wipe always a missed spot.

ETA: As I put the box in the safe noticed $80 written on the back. Could that have been the price back in the day?

You did very well, indeed! Now you need a 544 in 44/40...
Chris - it is an S number dating to 1966. Hard to resist that fat - bottomed ampersand and diamonds.

S-Series Model 58
Hey gang,
Long time reader, first time poster here. I have read through this thread twice now. I wanted a Model 58 for a good long while, and acquired this one in March of 2020 (right as the whole pandemic deal was going into full swing). I bought this off of a retired policeman, who was the original owner with original box, paperwork and numbered grips included. It has become my favorite piece, and shoots right on the mark with Georgia Arms' 210 grain semi wadcutter cowboy loads.
So I tried a couple different grips on it, including adding a brass Tyler T, however I actually prefer the stock magna grips. I have very large hands, and with the light cowboy loads I am shooting, those seem to work best for me. The Fuzzy Farrants look great and have a good feel with the palm swell, but I have better purchase with the magnas oddly enough.

Fine revolver as we here agree. They should have made a few variants.
A longer production run with a Stainless Steel option …
Naturally, the lack of a better mid level ammo ,by companies , sunk the popularity.

I really like these Model 58's.
I have two, an original blue N prefix in pristine condition and now wearing Keith Brown, Birds Eye Maple grips and a fully engraved, older job blue one.

...that is going to be an "S" prefix...if the grips are original that is. That and $80 was written on the bottom of the box, the retail in 1968 was $87.00 for blue...
