I was going to the local gun show this past weekend to support gun appreciation day. I thought about how to get into the AR buying/selling frenzy but to not be taking advantage of people. I decided to sell some .223 ammo. On the way there I stopped by a LGS to see if a mod. 27-2 was still there that I had seen earlier in the week. It was, but while I was there I heard horror stories about $10 parking and two a 2 hour wait to get in the gun show. So my plan changed. I asked the store owner if he wanted some ammo and he was interested. Well, I traded 400 rounds of .223 ammo for the 27-2 3.5 inch N215xxx not in the greatest condition but looks like it hasn't been fired much at all. I also got an ATI adjustable stock for my mini 14 in the deal.
I'm happy to say the least.MVC-001F.jpg

Right now 223 is selling for a buck a pop or close to it. That dealer paid you about $2 a round (based on an $800 estimated value for the revolver) and that's wholesale... how much does he plan to charge for it? I am amazed at this deal on several levels.

I was actually on GunsAmerica last night. And literally as I was looking at S&W Revolvers, going back and forth to them and bookmarking - Within mere minutes.. most were sold or had offers under review? I've never seen so much "widespread", panic buying before. Not even in the last AWB scare. ????

Yikes. There's a good-sized show near here next weekend. I passed on the last show because of concerns and it turned out to be the right call. Reports were that the show was a total madhouse. I might have to skip this one, too. No big deal. It's not one of my favorite shows anyway. It's right downtown so parking is expensive. Heck, even the panhandlers want twenty-bucks these days. In my day, they used to call that a "mugging".

Regards what the dealer paid you--they are people, too. I've noticed many times that they can get quite competitive with each other in a show setting.

That is a very nice looking 27, by the way. You paid about 230.00 for the whole shaboodle based on where .223 was, and, more importantly, where it's going to be again. ...my humble opinion...

The dealer had a couple of boxes of .223 earlier in the week for $49.95. It was gone when I came back. They wanted $8.95 for .22lr 50rds.

I'm happy for you. You got a fabulous deal. I'm sure the dealer is making money somewhere, but his approach is strange to me.

Yeah, you came off much better on that one. That's for sure.

I checked and it so happens I only own two hi-cap pistols. I always wanted one until I got one. They ain't for me. But, I wonder if I could trade a 84F Cheetah I picked up on a trade awhile back for a Model 27 or a 4-screw, or a 5-screw. My instincts tell me now would be the time.

Your deal is inspirational! I have, um, a number of boxes of M855 I picked up a while back.....mebbe I'll stop of at one of the pawn shops on the way home and see what they have there!

I admit... i "bought" into the frenzy

Just picked up a brand new M&P 15 for $1800...

yea - it was overpriced, but with the 2 x 30 round pmags and the fact it was brand new and has never been shot... I decided the risk of overpaying was worth the reward. Now I finally have an AR 15 back in the quiver.

Besides, I needed a big brother for my M&P .40. :D

Now I just need to find some ammo without having to pay $1/round.

Wow amazing deal and its got my wheels a turning. Makes since the gun shop might sit on that revolver for several months. That's several months of not making a profit. Where they could trade for the ammo mark it up thought the roof and it will sell in hours.

Well I think you did a lot better than going to that gun show. Great deal and the only way it could have been better is if I had gotten it!

I spoke to a fellow member last week who lives in Tenn and he said that 223 was going for $1500 a case at a gun show near him. He was thinking of selling some but he might want to consider a trade based on this deal. Congrats

If no one has checked out the going price on revolvers lately, you're in for a shock... Model 65 3" guns that were selling for $350 for LE trade ins and $425 for a nice clean one last fall are now bringing up to $950!! The bigger problem is just finding one for sale...

You got a beautiful 27 for your trade!!!

Seattle PD had a well-publicized gun buy-back program going on yesterday, they were giving a $100 gift card for handguns & a $200 card for "assault weapons". I hate these programs-- the criminals aren't gonna give up their weapons, plus so many classic and/or useful guns are turned in to be destroyed. What a waste of public money.
Several entrepeneurs got the bright idea to go down there with big "cash for guns" signs, and do some buying. I got a big kick out of that, but apparently some people took offense. The TV news made as big a deal out of it as they could. The SPD ended up running out of gift cards while there were still plenty of guns to go, which may have helped the private gun buyers' cause.

Wow. great deal! I've been looking around locally thinking now is a great time to find used revolvers. no luck yet.

Dang I've got thousands of rounds of 5.56/223. I would have easily given up twice the ammo for that gun.
Congrats on the trade though, great deal.
