Nice. Those are "real" guns and beautiful. If they stuck around to watch they would see the accuracy advantage as well.

There's not much mystique in the plastique.

First time I touched off a .357 Magnum round at the range folks started looking around like my gun blew up.

I was out of .38 Special so I had to bring my Glock 17 to the range today, since I had some 9mm on hand........things just weren't the same for me

I know what you mean. There is nothing like going to the range and all of the shooters around you are blasting away with .22, 25's, 380's or 9mm's.
You step up and blast off a cylinder of .357mag, .41 mag or .44 mag.
Everyone takes notice mainly because it shakes everyone's shirts , face and presence.
The people next to you say, "What the hell are you shooting?"
That is such a great feeling at the range.

I love magnum revolvers! The .357 mag does it for me.

The range where I shoot, if you have a revolver that's less than .44 Magnum without a 32x scope on it, people are like "what ya gonna use that fer?!!?If'n ya can't hunt with it, why's ya gots a wheelgun?"

One time I had my 6" 10-5 at the range and you'd think I was shooting a flintlock by some people's reactions........do people live under a rock or what Just because they've got an XD and a Hi-Point a gun "with only 6 shots" is old fashioned now.....

Nice Day

I had a real nice day today at the range,it was 73 deg. here in the N.East. I shot my .22 bench rest rifle, (testing new lot# of Eley ammo,) when i finished, I took out my S&W Model 625 cal .45ACP and did some 25 yard target shooting, then finished up with my .40cal.Glock. I posted some pic's over on the new members site. i meant to post on this site. anyway the day's are getting longer and warmer. Safe shooting everyone.

it's the "wow" factor

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I knew we had like minded folks here, in force.
The really nice thing is that wheelguns are coming back in style. The uninitiated really are impressed with the look, heft, the bark, and the pressure wave, to be sure. Start talking muzzle velocity and foot pounds with them and and the wow factor really hits home.
It harkens back to a time when shot placement was the order of the day, and one didn't "need" 15+1, in order to feel secure.
"It's a physics thing". I tell the kids. "Google it, and you'll understand just what 240 grains @ 1400 fps can do".

The weather here was nice enough to go out to the range. I took my model 18, 10, and always have my carry gun a model 60. Their was a young couple next to me, probably early 20's. they were shooting some kind of 9mm auto.
I started out with the 18 and they really didn't say anything, but looked at it. Then came the 10. I could tell they were getting interested. When I go to the range I run a couple of cylinders of full bore .357's through my carry gun mostly to freshen up the ammo in it.
When I shot it the girl came over and asked what I had. They turned out to be a really nice couple of kids. She said she really didn't like the 9mm they were shooting so I loaded up the 18 and let her shoot it. You could tell she was a beginer, but she did really good.
When I was ready to leave she made a comment that she wanted the guy to get her one of "those" guns.
Maybe the old guys aren't so bad after all.

The primary range that I frequent is outdoors and part of a "sportsman's club" (read hunters). The three pistol pits are almost exclusively populated by weekend commandos rapid firing semi-autos with impunity. I am the lone revolver shooter, and am usually viewed as an oddity.

BTW: I own three SIGs, so this is not an anti-semi rant post.

It got to 50 degrees and I went our local outdoor range with the 13-1, the 642-2, and the M&P45 FS. Alone. Still had to set the targets up in the snow, but it was melting fast. Few hunnert rounds later I was happy! Should chase that cabin fever for a while.

Shot a couple of groups of 357 with the 13, then switched to 38's, the 13 just goes 'poof' with the 38's compared to the 357. But that trigger is SO-O-O smooth!

Been a wheel gun guy forever, and spoiled by the 13, so I am still learning the semi-auto; trigger is a little abrupt yet.

The ratio of semiautos to wheelguns in the safe has always been fairly low, and is getting more so with the years. 1911s, BHPs, and the odd Woodsman or old Ruger .22 are granted permanent residence.

Heck, even Elmer Keith and Ed McGivern had some of those newfangled bottomfeeders in their barn.

Most of the time, though, I take out an Old Reliable.

Lol, I am one of the younger converts to six guns, and I agree that "there is no mystique in the plastique"! There is just something retro cool about a revolver. Of course, I still really enjoy my 1911-style Colts. Lol, I'm not sure if they qualify as new fangled autos anymore being a hundred year old design.

The description I like to use on those days I take my sixguns to the range is "MAGNUMS on the line!" A crowd gathers when I light up my model 65 with Winchester 145 Silvertips. But the one that shuts down the "plastic fantastic" shooters is my recently aquired model 58! With Silvertips it's pure fire and brimstone, and it's like nobody ever heard a magnum before?!
And the ladies seem to like my old model 10 and try it out while their boyfriends are busy hosing a target with the 20 round wonder gun.
Revolvers are definetly COOL and I want more of them! Dale

The wheel gun shooters are often looked at like dinosaurs at the range until they come down and see your targets and tight groups and then they get quiet and walk away.

Definitely fun to take the 686 and some magnums to the range. When you light off that first shot the range gets silent and a bunch of heads peek around the barriers to see what it was. The the guys with tupperware pistols who can barely hit the target drift over and their jaws drop when they see the tight groups from that "antiquated" old revolver.

I took 3 with me yesterday 17-4, 19-3 and 629-1. The .44 definitely lets the other shooters know you are there.

LOL - The last time I took a 44 Magnum to the range I got jumped on by one of the staff for beating up the club's steel targets. When I pointed out that I was shooting my own steel he walked away mumbling and shaking his head. Older guy and he didn't seem much impressed with my revolver. (smile)
