Thieves!!

We're finishing up a long drawn out move and are now in the unpacking stage. Downsizing from a horse property to living in a neighborhood. The actual distance of the move is less than a mile but trying to squeeze barn, shop and house contents in to a home only has been a challenge.

Went back today to get the saddles out of the shop and they were gone. Mine, my brides and a youth saddle. The thieves didn't take any of the few remaining tools, barn items, nothing but the saddles and tack. The Deputy said the saddles would bring more money than anything else. Most likely won't ever see them again. I liked my Tucker saddle. I don't like thieves.

I had a coach in high school that always said thieves and liars are lower than whale's turds and they are on the bottom of the ocean. I agree.

With dope so prevalent now the crime rate has risen considerably. I moved from Oregon a while back & had a covered trailer I towed with my pickup. I had a lock on the trailer & didn't stop except for gas & eats. My son & I switched driving so made the 540 miles in one day. I had my 357 handy.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your saddles. You may want to check pawn and tack shops, as well as the local farm store's community for sale boards.

our niece & family just purchased a super house in the best section of Ponca City Okla.. When they moved into the new house over a weekend, someone, I think one of their new neighbors, saw them carrying in their long guns and paid them a visit after they'd gone to work and stole them & an extra set of keys, including their vehicle keys..

I told them to get a locksmith there ASAP, take the vehicles back to the dealerships they'd got them from new & get them rekeyed & have a security system put into the house... They also brought their Australian cattle dog & their pit bull in from the ranch...

I'm betting it was the son & friends of a new neighbor who saw them moving in & were looking for easy money for drugs...

In g-dad's case the OP, I'd sure wonder if one of their old neighbors who saw them moving... and came by to see what they could steal when they knew he was gone... I'd put in some well hidden trail cams to try & catch them on a return shopping trip.

So sorry to hear this. I agree, there's not much lower than a thief, and if they'll steal from you they'll lie to you too. Got no tolerance for that. Hope you get your saddles back and they get a few free meals courtesy of the county.

I'm betting it was dopers stole your stuff. Unfortunately, Lincoln County is becoming more and more of a hotbed for dope, especially opioids and meth.

I blame the law for being so lenient on some of these crimes!! If it does not belong to you, keep your hands off and keep walking!! Or else!!!

Lately the thieving has been the stealing of 4 wheelers from the ranches.

I'm guessing you were NOT surprised a thief left "tools" ? Working tools are foreign objects to most thieves.

In Texas, we have a bunch of 'Special Rangers' that work for the Cattleman's Assn. They do nothing but handle crimes against livestock and ranches, and they are really good at it.

There are still parts of Texas that do not look kindly to folks that try to victimize us country folks .....and in some places 911 just doesn't work that fast, so they have to handle things themselves. It is great to have lots of open land and a backhoe

I am very sorry to hear that too. Thieves make me angry. Saddles are worth a lot of money and they are heavy so the thieves must have been in a car. Did you notice any different tire tracks? Maybe someone saw the moving truck and went later to see what was left behind. I too would look at craigslist and maybe check the local flea market. In our area the police recover a lot of stolen items at the flea markets.

Sometime back in the mid 70s-someone stole all of our saddles out of the garage. Never been located as far as I know. I wish we coulkd shoot thieves fingers off their hands.

Whenever I'm loading or unloading firearms from my vehicle I back it up as close to the garage door as I can get. This minimizes the visual exposure and hopefully a crooks potential opportunity to rob me.
Of course I have the typical security features such a a security system, a safe etc.

In 1987 (on my birthday of all days!) someone stole my car from the Bridgeport CT Airport parking lot. I was working nights for a small commuter airline at Bradley International but was sent down to Bridgeport that night to help them.

I walked out of work at 5am only to find just a small pile of broken glass where my diesel Jetta used to be. I was fortunate that my mother was able to drive down and get me since I was about 40 miles from home.

Besides being my birthday it was a low point in my life and I was just barely getting by. Losing my car would have pushed me over the edge. It was at this point I realized why they hanged horse thieves back in the old west. Stealing a cowboy's horse was literally stealing his ability to make a living.

Luckily the Police recovered my car (minus the stereo) by the time we made it back to my mom's place so we turned around and retrieved it.

That is why you don't want me on your jury if you are guilty of stealing a car (or a horse). You WILL be looking at a death sentence.

I feel your pain. I have lost a power washer, a battery charger, a bisquit cutter, $5,000 in cash and $100 in cash. The first three from the yard or garage and the last two from my car. Having several vehicles I have sometimes forgotten to check all of the locks especially when working on one while forgetting that I opened one of the others to get a tool or some other item.

It just seems like these scum bags know exactly when I have forgotten to lock up. The other day my neighbor's purse was found three houses down the street dumped out on the ground. Credit cards and checkbook still there as they only wanted cash for dope.

Several cars in the neighborhood have been hit to the extent that the police sent around a notice asking for folks to be on the lookout.

Normally they only empty the ash tray or console of coins and don't touch stereos or GPS's. The police said that it is the heroin addicts looking for quick cash for a fix. Pawn shops and Craig's List can get you busted.

It has gotten to the point where I am installing motion lights and cameras. I miss the days 20 years ago when I first moved here and could leave my keys in the ignition at night.

Perhaps the middle east has this one right. Steal there and they cut off your hands.

I agree with keeping your eyes on Craigslist , local tac shops n of course the local pawn shops. They probability have not gotten very far. Most thieves are not very intelligent.

I've already had this thought. And I like the suggestion regarding shooting the fingers off.

This particular thief or thieves were just after the saddles and tack. In a past life my bride and I made a lot of items from copper tubing. They left a pile of copper on the table beside the saddles.

We had a farm equipment sale. This theft was done by someone that had recently been on my property.

A Friend had two C.B.Radios stolen out of His Truck at Work at different times so He epoxied some Bluegill Fish Hooks on the back of the third one and when They broke into His Truck for that one the crook got more than He bargained for as He had to reach up and pull down hard to get the radio off of the Head Liner and the Hooks sunk home.
He never got the Radio back but He said thinking about some Guy in the E.R with a Radio hooked to His hand made it worth while.
