I'll be traveling to Chatanooga, TN for a week in late July, looking for things to see & do. Any gun shops I should visit? I understand that they have a world class aquarium.

Lookout Mountain

I don't know much about firearms related in Chatanooga, but I have been there a couple of times. Two tourist things: Lookout Mountain, and a railroad museum. Lookout mountain has several historical attractions. One is a tour thru the caves within the mountain. At the end of the caves is, Ruby Falls, a waterfall within the mountain. Very impressive and a nice tour. There are other things, but one of interest is the show about a Civil War battle of Seminary Ridge where Gen. Douglas MacArthur's father, Arthur MacArthur, won the Medal of Honor.
The train museum is very pretty and well set up for a look-see (mostly free). To get around the town, as I recall, is a trolley setup and very convenient. The whole city is on human scale; one of my favorite places. My wife like the shopping centers near the city. Have a nice trip.

The aquarium is supposed to be top rated. Never been there myself but hear good reports.
There is Benton Shooters Supply in Benton, a few miles north. Pricey, but interesting.

I would stop and see gunlovingirl. Thats what I would do! LOL!! Have fun and be safe.

lol. Thanks Marshall. But I don't think you'll find me in any tourist brochure! I'm just not that interesting! It's been so long since I was in nooga that I can't make any reccomendations, other than the aquarium and Lookout Mountain. Have fun, and enjoy your travels!

You're not that far from Chickamauga. Besides the battlefield at the visitor center is a simply outstanding extensive collection of military firearms.

Be Sure to go to the Aquarium. Do the Salt water in the morning go to lunch and then do the freshwater. Fantastic. Ruby Falls is also very interesting. It is a few hundred feet underground and some tight places but you will get use to it.

Chickamauga is also recommended nice easy tour in the car with plenty of time to go your own speed.

As the other posters have said you will enjoy yourself.

Good suggestions here. The aquarium is a must-see. Rock City and Ruby Falls, as well. As far as gun shops, I haven't lived there in quite a while; but there used to be a little shop on Signal Mountain right on Highway 127 called The Gun Shop. They often had interesting guns that were not seen every day. Don't know if the place is still there or not.

I recall a small museum off the hiking trail at Point Park on Lookout Mountain. It had a few items from Lookout Mountain and some historical info. Not to mention a great view! There was a bird sanctuary at the base of Lookout. They rehabilitated birds of prey. I don't remember exactly where it was. There's also a large nature preserve at the base of Lookout. Take a drive on Missionary Ridge. There are lots of historical sites there too. Don't forget Signal Mountain. The hike to Rainbow lake is nice. Take the road to Signal point and take a right on Ohio Ave to the trail head next to the golf course. Chickamauga is also nice with a good museum. Cloudland Canyon is a good place for hiking too. If you like the water, go rent a boat or canoe.

There are of course places to shoot. Talk to the locals on the TN/GA shooters board.

You might want to find a rental instead of hotel.

I would love to move back.
