Thinking about cutting down the slide stop on my SD9VE...

I use a high hold, thumbs forward grip on all of my semi-auto pistols. The problem with this is some manufacture's slide stops sit too far back, my thumb hits it and prevents the slide from locking open on the last round. This is the case with the SD9VE.

I have the Apex trigger (only the trigger) coming in today and was thinking about cutting down the slide stop a bit to prevent this from happening. It would basically be the length of a Glock slide stop which I have no problem hitting although I release the slides by pulling back and releasing anyway, aka the overhand method.

My problem is not being able to get another slide stop in-case I want to send it in for warranty. Nobody can sell parts since S&W has no armorer classes for the SDVE pistols, so will S&W sell me a replacement slide stop or do they consider that a restricted part? They wouldn't sell me a factory rear M&P sight saying it was "restricted" so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I had the same problem. I moved my thumb. Now I rest it on my other hand behind my other thumb. I'm still trying to get used to it.

You can buy the slide release lever online. I just got one in the mail today in fact. Just cut it and cold blue it, it's not like you're cutting the frame :)

I had the same problem as well! I have repositioned my thumb so as not to rest it on/under the stop lever. As poster #2 says.

I think this is your alternative, as I do not believe they are available to purchase online. You may find a used one on eBay.

They are available for purchase as I have recently purchased one

Interesting nomenclature issue. Clearly the item being discussed is the black lever that the OP has an issue with his thumb hitting it. It comes into play mostly when the last round is fired and the magazine becomes empty. I don't know the best name but I have seen it in gun schematics.

For example a Glock schematic calls it a "slide stop lever" and the piece we usually call a "take down lever" is shown on a Glock schematic as a "slide lock". I like to call that piece a "Barrel stop" because a hook on the barrel engages it when the slide is installed. [No one seems to agree with me, but it doesn't hurt my feelings].

Now, adding to the confusion, I have a package from NDZ labeled "Extended Slide Lock Lever". It's the thing that hurts our fingers during the first take-down step and many of us buy a longer one pretty soon.

I'm sorry this note is a bit confusing, but just read it again, I couldn't make it any better, unless I made a table.

No conclusion other than there is no conclusion.

Well, another name for the part.

I have to confess to posting something and quickly deleting it, related to this part. I had commented that the one shown with the arm bent out would clearly not work. I then realized that the part that interacts with the slide folds down over the frame, far from the lever we push. I had posted before looking at my gun.

If anyone saw that post before I took it down, I can just say that I shot before aiming.

Something we are all inclined to do ant one time or another.
I must commend you on your humble attitude! Please be assured many would not post a retraction, let alone an apology for an errant post!
