Thinking about switching from Kahr to M&P Compact

Ended up trading my Kahr for a M&P 9c plus some cash and extra mags (thanks Pat!). I REALLY like this gun! It is bigger than the Kahr, but it is much, much more comfortable. Very easy to shoot and very reliable. I ordered a Comp-Tac IWB holster for it and works great. I still carry my S&W 1026 as the weather permits me to easily conceal it, but once it warms up I'll probably be packing the M&P 9c exclusively.

Try that holster with a CTac strut for a very stable rig.

I carried a Glock 36 in 45 ACP for a while but found that I could not conceal reliably at alltimes. A friend shot a Kahr MK-9 but I thought it was a bit too heavy for a pocket piece. I opted for a Kahr PM-9 and carry it in a pocket holster.
I recently purchased a S&W M&P9Pro and throroughly enjoy shooting it in IDPA and USPSA matches. I actually prefer my older S&W 99 with it's unique ambi safety for IDPA.

I have both the full size and the Compact M&P in .40.

Don’t want to get rid of either but I have really been wanting to try a Kahr MK40. The people that have them must love them because they are hard to find in the used market (at a used price). Buds has them for $719 new, I’ve held off six months on trying one thinking I would find a deal on used. Hasn’t happened, I keep getting closer to pulling the trigger on new.

At $200 over an M&P I never heard it referred to as a "budget brand" before. :D

For concealed carry, I also have opted for the Kahr PM9. Very concealable, lightweight, good sights, and very good trigger/accuracy. I definitely would not consider the Kahr to be a 'budget brand,' they are very good quality, and of course, their prices that reflect that quality.

I also have an M&Pc and like it ok. It does have very comfortable ergonomics, and good capacity, but a lousy trigger, and therefore so-so accuracy. I know I could do the trigger upgrade that makes it a better shooter, but it ticks me off that it's so poor from the factory.

I've got a good carry holster for the M&Pc, but after carrying the PM9, it's hard to love carrying the M&Pc. The extra round count is nice, but again, for conceal, it's hard to beat the PM9. I also shoot the smaller PM9 better than the M&Pc, so that's also a big factor in what I'm going to carry.

The MK9 is a nice gun, but can see where it would not be much fun for carry; too heavy compared to other options in 9mm/.45acp. Just my opinion.

You actually need both... A M&P9c or Glock 26 or Springfield XD9c as a main carry and a Kahr CW9 or PM9 as a bug.
And like that when the weather gets too hot and makes it difficult to conceal your main carry you can always take the Kahr.

Good point, cooler weather makes it much more convenient with the M&P...

It seems to me, the question comes down to concealability that fits your needs and lifestyle. I primarily carry a Kahr CW-40 or a Glock 27 (subcompact, same frame as the 26).

The Kahr, being a single stack frame is much easier to conceal when wearing a t-shirt and shorts which I wear alot of the time. Down side is 3 rounds less.

The 27 is much bulkier and heavier. Upside is better capacity.

The PPK is a single stack and will be easier to carry/conceal than the M&P or the Glock. All choices are quality guns. Good luck with your choice.
