Thinking on a carry gun?

Wow! Thanks for all the replies and info. However I did find a Shield in a 40 but would prefer the 9mm. An individual has one that he will let go of for $475 no tax or paperwork. He bought a 9 and a 40 but done sold the 9. I have to drive 70 miles to pick it up but thats not to bad. I told him i would make up my mind and let him know by Sunday. Reading all this makes me think about getting the M&P9c. Have any of you shot the shield 9 and 40 both? I take it the accuracy is good on both. I see one posted above they love there Shield 40. Thanks again guys for the info.

GMC, if you're like most of us, you'll wind up with more than one carry gun depending on the seasons and how you dress. My M&P Compact 9 was my first EDC and I like it fine, but it's too bulky for summer carry, (MHO). Got a Bodyguard snubbie, then an M&P Shield both of which conceal better and are lighter in warm weather. The Shield's become pretty much my EDC regardless of season. Trouble is, they're hard to find. Good luck.

GMC, also remember that if you buy the Shield 40, the 9mm barrel is interchangeable with it, without needing to buy 9mm magazines. There are several threads and videos elsewhere on the Forum that describe and demonstrate this, and the name of at least one gun shop that carries the 9mm barrel for about $75. That way, you have the flexibility of a 9mm for practice and a 40 for carry, if you so choose.

I daily carry a Shield 40 and think a lot of it as a CCW.

2001gmc, my avatar pic is 200 rounds at 15 to 30 ft. The Shield is accurate. Lots of dry fire and range time. Good luck.

The Shield is going to be thinner and a little lighter weight than just about everything else referenced in this thread and for me that matters, for others it might not matter much. I believe Shield weighs in at 19oz. Prior to buying the Shield 9 in March or April when they first hit the shelves, my usual carry gun was the CS9. Again, I liked the size/weight/concealablity. The Shield is just a little smaller in all dimensions. I'm sold on S&W quality and dependability....for EDC it's the brand that gets my vote, but I do own Ruger, Bersa and Glocks too. I have heard lots of negative comments about both KelTec and Ruger LCP triggers but have not personally shot either.

I'm waiting on delivery of a Shield40. As someone else pointed out in this thread, if you buy the Shield 40 you can convert to 9 with a simple $75 barrel purchase...a very compelling argument for getting the 40 available to you for what seems to be a fair price. I'd be tempted to go that route. The M&P 9C is another good choice, especially given that you like the M&P FS. I have 2 M&P's but again the Shield is gonna be a tad smaller/thinner than the 9C. So many choices for one to ponder.....good luck.

Yea I think I may just pick up this 40 Shield. I got till Sunday to make up my mind. I can pick it up for $475 total cost. If all else fails I can re sell it pretty easy I'm sure. I like the idea of being able to swap out the barrels to a 9mm cause I didn't know that. Thanks for all the info. I will pick it up probably Monday or Tuesday. Its brand new in the box never fired also. Thats a plus for me.
