Third Generations vs. M&P Line?

pretty sure the revolver guys look at us in the same light:D

As if we'd care what guys still using firearms technology that predates smokeless powder think.*

We might as well get worked up over the good opinion of the stone knives and bearskins types. ;)

*admittedly, I actually have more rollerguns than shuffleguns, but that's the sort of admission that eats into a good abusive storyline.

Your to much. :D

But at least they get grandfathered in unlike the 1911 guys with their thigh rigs that don't even know we are here. :p

On the one hand you have well made, good looking, accurate, hammer fired guns with good triggers. Guns that you don't need to buy Apex parts for in order to give them the trigger they should have come from the factory with. On the other hand you have the m&p.
Gee, and you don't even live in Massachusetts where the MA-compliant M&P triggers are, in some cases, not just horrible but utterly unusable. :o

In Massachusetts, the hundred dollar Apex kit is simply viewed as a special tax we have to pay for living in a one-party leftist-controlled state. :(

The 3rd gen guns are much nicer looking, and I've owned a bunch. Not any right now, I am ssorry to say, although there is a very nice all stainless parts 6906 in a shop in town for $400 that I've been looking at. Wife would kill me if I brought it home, and truth be told, it would sit in the safe and get shot maybe twice a year.

But there's another thread on here of a guy with a malfunctioning 6906 that he is sending back to S&W. Can they fix it? maybe. They stopped supporting these guns and parts are getting scarce.

But I know one thing, I shoot striker fired guns better than hammer fired, and I hate to say that because I prefer the looks and safety of a hammer over a striker. And I've been shooting third gen's and Beretta 92's for over 25 years. Just always throw that first DA shot. My home gun is a Ruger SR-9 and my carry gun is a ruger LC9-S, bought for the manual safety and mag disconnect.

Come to Florida. Tons of nice-paying jobs. No State Income Tax.
Bikini-clad women of varying hotness levels 11 months of the year...
Hog Hunting is Year-round, no limit except on WMA's.
White-tail Deer Limit is Two Per Day.
Black Bear is on the table with Wildlife Management.
You may kill any Python or Anaconda you see on sight, all year around.

Average 4br home in a very nice neighborhood in NW Florida runs around $150K.
If you take advantage of the Forclosure Market, half that.

And we have all the theme parks you could ever wish to go to...
Florida Residents can get an Annual Pass at a pretty low cost,
which means multiple happy visits making the Kids/Grandkids ecstatic!! ;)

Can you top ANY of that up North?? I don't think so :D
There's a reason folks come to Florida to retire!!
Do you get snow? :D

That all sounds good but I think I'd miss snow. There's something weird about not having all 4 seasons! [emoji12]

The M&P9c I owned had the Apex kit installed before I bought it. I bought it used from a guy who was working his way through law school. It was a nice shooting gun, but it did nothing that the 6906 I bought to replace wouldn't do. And of course the 6906 has 12 round magazines and looks sooooo much better. :D

I appreciate the thought, but FL is not on the literal or figurative road map for relocation. I do like the panhandle area, but if I were going to settle in that area, I'd point west a few miles and go to Baldwin County, AL.

There are fewer and fewer reasons to stay up here every year, but we can't quite go yet.

Both of us like the south, we just don't know exactly where yet. Both kids are down there, and the grandkids as well.

You bring up another point and that is that here in Massachusetts we are limited to 10-round magazines (max) in the entire M&P line.

If you want more than 10-round magazines in an S&W handgun, you need to go pre-ban... which means either pre-ban magazines in a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Gen pistol... or pre-ban magazines in a Sigma series pistol (including the current SDVE's).

The new plastic guns are fine, but they have no soul. I've owned Glocks in the past & had a M&P40c which I just sold. From now on, no more striker fired guns for me. Only SA/DA guns with a hammer. GARY

Well said, I feel the same way.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have been a Glock guy for many years. When Glock failed to bring out a single stack 9, I bought a couple Kahrs, a K9 and a PM9. The Kahrs have brutally long trigger pulls but, with practice, I can shoot them well enough for self defense purposes.

Years ago, Mas Ayoob authored an article in American Handgunner that was, to me, mesmerizing. I lost complete control of myself and went out to buy a 4506. It was a great gun in that it was absolutely reliable and very accurate. Sadly, it was REALLY big for a CCW. Then I met a neighbor who was a cop, and he carried a 9mm 669 as a backup. The 669 was the predecessor to 6906. Since seeing the 669, I've lusted after the 6906 but never bought one. Every once in a while, my craving for a 6906 becomes unbearable.

I asked about the 3rd gen vs. M&P to see if I might scratch the itch with a Shield or M&P Compact. In any event, the purchase of another 9mm pistol makes no sense and I should probably just go lay down until I come to my senses.

Thanks again for your replies,

Bill

Around once every 30 years in NW Fla ;)
Last time it snowed enough to make a snowman in Pensacola was 1973.
We get flurries every few years...rarely does anything stick over a few hours.

But, if one needs a reminder of snow, one can always visit Tennessee every winter,
but now my old bones just say to me, "Its too frakkin Cold!!"

There is No Such Thing as Too Many Pistols!!
I've still got room in my third safe for a few more ;)

I wonder if that was the same snow storm that delayed the opening of the George C. Wallace bridge in Mobile?

Seriously, I was reading about it's construction yesterday and there was a note that it was delayed due to snow.

Yes, my mind is full of useless knowledge.
