I refinished this pistol and I'm sure some may find fault with the decision. It's my first 39 and I am very happy with it, very happy. Ken

It does look nice now. The question of refinishing is really a personal choice. As long as you are happy with the gun, all is good. The 39 is one of the best pistols made, enjoy yours.

Well heck yeah!

But please tell us your wife doesn't make you eat your meals over those pink place-mats.

I think that's the best refinish I've seen on a M39.

Did the slide get refinished, or does the frame just match the slide so much better now?

I may seriously consider doing that to my well beat-up old 39.

Thanks guys

Here's a good tip about the pink place mats. They are the non-slip stuff that was originally made for motor homes and boats. The pink ones were 2 for a buck at the dollar store. I use them on my reloading bench and for diassembly of firearms. Itty bitty parts do not bounce off the stuff when they fall out of a piece or I drop them. They are great for bullets and brass too.
OK, the 39 finish is Duracoat. I'm a certified Duracoat finisher and I just do it for local guys and my own stuff. I don't have a FFL. The new Duracoat Slick is pretty awesome stuff. I totally disassemble the pistol and absolutely degrease every part. I then blast with 120 grit aluminum oxide prior to coating. I coat the frame and slide and the ends of pins and all exposed parts. I bake the parts for a short time to expedite curing and can reassemble and use the piece in 1/2 hr.
This frame had some galling on top from lack of lubrication. I gently smoothed the entire surface and built it up with Duracoat. It feels like it's on bearings now. I think I like this 39 better than the BHP. It' painful to say that!
If you hear about problems with Duracoat it is because it was improperly applied. Thanks for the kind words, Ken
