Who broke the color line for the last all white pre-expansion team in major league ball, and when did he do it?

Just to make a passing nod to the original focus of this thread, this event did not occur in February, and not on the 15th -- Ides or not.

The Boston Red Sox were the last major league team to integrate, due to the resistance of owner Tom Yawkey.

When integration did come, new General Manager Bucky Harris promoted Pumpsie Green from Boston's AAA farm club in July 1959, but Green did not become a regular player. Earl Wilson began as a regular in the Red Sox' rotation beginning 1962.

112 years ago, on March 7, 1901, the Texas legislature voted to make the Bluebonnet the state flower.

There was controversy during the debate. One member wanted the cotton boll. Another from Uvalde, lobbied for the prickly pear cactus. He made such an impassioned speech that he earned a nickname that stuck with him for the rest of his life.

32 years later, John Nance "Cactus Jack" Garner, would be sworn in as vice-president under Franklin D. Roosevelt.
 
In 1911 President Taft ordered 20,000 troops to the Mexican border.
There was a revolution going on! Zapata and Orozco united to overthrow presidente Diaz captured Ciudad Juarez,and declared Madero El Presidente. A "viva villa" moment.
 
On this day in 1862, Confederate generals Ben McCulloch and James McIntosh were both killed at the battle of Pea Ridge/Elkhorn Tavern in Arkansas.
