This has been in the back of my mind for a while

This is the only 1911 I'v ever owned. A Colt MK IV Government Series 80. I sold it unfired.

My brother carried a 1911 Colt 45 Commander for years when he was a LEO.
One of my close friends EDC is a Ed Brown 1911.

These are the only two semi-autos that I own today. Both are .45s.

About the big mistake thing.

Because they are just so fun to shoot.

Here firing the Ithaca/Remington in a 20 second timed fire practice.

IMHO changing grips was the proper thing to do. My 28-2 6 in. came with Magna's. I had new Targets on hand and I liked them much better

What do you do to a gun with a soldering iron? I know one thing, it does not sound good

They, IMHO, idiots, "stipple" their guns with them. I've only seen a couple in real life, but both of them looked very amateurish, to put it mildly. One of them had about 100 little conical impressions on each side, and I thought when I held it, "What is the point of this? The stock grip (It was an M&P)is rough enough."

Here you can watch a guy ruin his gun. Just my opinion, he seems happy with it. I just don't get the obsession some people have with an almost crazy fear of "losing my grip" on a gun.

If you ever had to you use a handgun with smooth grips with blood soaked hands you might give them a pass.

And... It can happen.
