If a person wants to look at such, they need to do so on their own time.

But why would any educated man access such from a public or government computer?

I am a member of a firearms site that has an adult area. Nothing wrong with that and I enjoy going to it on occasion just to read the articles. There is no way I would go to the site, even though it is a firearms site, from a shared, public or government computer.

All kidding aside -you're correct-work is work and people who use work computers for ANYTHING other than work should be repremanded or fired. Which is why I DON'T use government computers as I like the freedon to check my e mail, browse the web (this forum for instance-imagine if this turned up on a government 'puter ) and "be me". ;) I'd rather pay a bit more and retain my freedon ot screw off:D.

After a morning of wrecking the Constitution and postponing trials and hearings, judges feel they have a right to some porn and booze purchased by you and me.

I agree that only work related things should only be performed on anything the company provides being a cell phone, computer, or whatever. It may be. The reason being the company pays for it so it belongs to them. If you get a virus the company will have to pay to clean it up which could cost thousands of dollars depending on damage it does.

While I feel the first amendment gives us the right to view adult material that is posted on the internet, I don't feel that I should pay someone's wages and internet access for them to do it. I feel that government computers should be used only for what they were intended for, not personal use. A few months back someone asked on another web site if ever in our history, that American servicemen had ever fired upon American civilians. I posted a picture of the Kent State shootings as a response. Next day the whole thread was removed and one of the moderators responded he had to pull the thread because he monitored the site from his government computer at a military installation, during working hours. No waste of tax dollars there.........

Perhaps they believe they are above the minions out there, above the law and better than you.

Many people still aren't computer savvy and do not understand how easy it is to trace that stuff. Cf the idiots who send a threatening e-mail to the White House-and 3 hours later the Secret Service shows up to arrest them.

I recently retired from a .gov job that lasted 41 years. After everyone got a PC we were often informed what we were and were not allowed to do. It was OK to occasionally conduct personal business on the .gov computer as long as it was during your break time, never during your work time. It was never OK to visit 'Adult' sites or to conduct a private business using .gov equipment. We had to take ethics training every year. I own my own computer and I pay for internet access which is as it should be. I liked my job, that is why I lasted so long, as a matter of fact I liked it so much I recently returned as a part time contractor, but that is another story.

A couple of years ago a co worker called me into his office complaining that he could no longer access gun sites. He then typed in ruger.com and sure enough it was blocked. He requested that I try to log on with my computer which I declined to do. Later during lunch break I did in fact log onto ruger.com without any problems. I returned to his office and told him that "They" are watching you! I earned a good salary during the later years of my career and I did not feel that the tax payers would appreciate it if I spent working hours amusing myself by surfing the net.

In my current (3rd) career, I work for the gubbimint. Everyone knows what is a no no with the computers. The big ones are using the LE/govt databases for ANY personal business, surfing on other than own time, and accessing porn sites-anytime at all. This has been made clear to all govt employees for years, and anyone who stubs their toe has no one to blame but themselves. I have no sympathy for the judge at all. It may sound corny, but I believe in a days work for a days pay-for everyone. I am really glad to have the job(any job at my age) and I take care not to abuse it

I have a work laptop but have never used it for my own personal use. There no reason people who are getting paid and using CO property to download music or get a porn fix. I think one of the concerns with internet porn is the security risk most of those sites have spyware and viruses that imbed themselves to computer files. I'm not against porn but there's a time and place anybody that has to view porn daily often has a problem.
