I have always carried in an open top OWB or IWB appendix. Now I might switch to a more secure mode.
I was using a public john and was sitting down and when finished went to stand up. I always grab my holstered Glock 19 and lift up the pants. But the gun slipped out of my grip and guess where it went? Yep, right in!! After yelling a couple of things I had to get it out! I believe the guy a few stalls down thought I had an explosion because he left in a hurry!🥺 I used my knife to fish it out being careful to not get in front of the trigger.
Needless to say I had to do a complete tear down and clean in my truck.
The moral of the story is: wear a more secure holster or bad things will happen!!!

Be lucky you were not in a outhouse or port-o-potty!:D
 
Some folks truly believe Glocks belong in the crapper. I happen to like them, and regret you were faced with that unfortunate situation. I saw a Kahr 9mm in a Ziploc freezer bag full of diesel fuel after a foot chase through an area frequented by homeless people.
 
Open top holsters can be a problem. LOL I always step away from the commode before pulling my pants up or moving the gun in or out of the holster.
I had to laugh about the outhouse. I just imagined the gun sinking down into the sludge. I don't know it just might have to stay there. I heard of a guy that coughed while he was in an outhouse and his false teeth went into the sludge. They stayed there.
 
When I go to the can the gun goes in my pocket. It stays there until I am facing away from the toilet. The same goes for my phone. I don't want anything near that doesn't belong in the bowel.
 
I use this one for a Glock 33 and 26. I just held it upside down by the clip and it won't shake out. I've been using it for 3 or 4 years now and zero issues. It says out of stock at the moment but maybe what you're looking for.

Dropping a deuce in uniform should be an eight hour class at the police academy. When I worked for the Yankee Gov't, we devoted some time in our lesson plan for it, and spent extra time with the females, as they were required to drop trou more often in the field. During my time we had more than pistol left on the top of the tank and the hook on the back of the door. Always caused a rather large stink, and a couple people with history got fired . . .

I dunno, it's a great typo!

I know that using public restrooms does occur but I haven't had to do that in a very long time. I trained my now senior body to be devoted to mornings at home or in hotels or wherever - before I start toting my EDC that day. That said, I will note that there are various ways to prevent this type of problem, including various retention holsters, but it's not that difficult to take your handgun and set it somewhere, like in your pocket, while you are otherwise occupied.
 
Whenever I use the restroom I tend to take it off my belt/out of my pocket and either sit/hang it somewhere beside me or hold it in my hand.

Why? Because you tend to be most vulnerable when answering the call of nature, so it makes me feel more secure to keep it right beside me in a place where I can easily ready it if necessary, plus it has the fringe benefit of being less likely to get filthy by either coming into direct contact with the floor or falling directly into the toilet.
 
I offer two solutions:

(1) Throw away the Glock. Buy a 1911 45ACP. Get a tanker holster. Problem solved. Unless you stick your head in the toilet, the gun won't end up there.

(2). Buy a good pair of rubber gloves. Keep your holster.

The scary part of the story is fishing a Glock out of the John by the trigger guard with a knife.

Lucky there wasn't a very loud noise.

I know of a few instances when folks stuck something in a Glock trigger guard with unfortunate consequences.
 
The public restroom thing is one of the main reasons I will not CC with an open topped holster unless it has a thumb snap. Not just any thumb snap, but one that takes a little effort to pop loose. Lots of thumb snaps open too easily.
 
My carry piece is the first thing placed in a safe location, before dropping trou. Then the phone. The handgun usually goes on the top of the tank, and the phone usually goes on top of the paper dispenser. (if available that is) Sometime the call comes when the public john is just a seat, or a porta-potty. But the gun is always secured first and foremost.

I've always had the fear of getting distracted and leaving either one behind, but so far so good. I dearly love have the "home court" advantage though, but as Forest Gump said "It happens."

Glad you didn't drop a good gun. LOL!

That is the correct way to retain your sidearm while doing your business.

tlay - you have already been beat up here about this incident - but I gots to add my 2-cents ;) It doesn't appear that you work as an LEO - so I would have been sorely tempted to leave my HG secured in the car if I had to use the powder room. There may be some here, maybe even you, who will say I never want to be un-armed. I can understand and appreciate that - but I would then be tempted to find a safer location to do my 'business' ;) in that case ...
