This snow stinks!

We were only supposed to get a "dusting" today. It got really slick and we had a 55 car pile-up on I-64 near Ft. Eustis. So much for our great weather forecasts.

One of the advantages to being an apartment dweller is that someone else does much of the hard work. I was given the day off, slept in, when I awoke about 0900 the crew had plowed the parking lots, used the snow blowers on the sidewalks. I cleaned about 2" of very wet snow off my walk, cleared the next door neighbors' area, cleaned the steps of a 78 year old neighbor, helped a couple people clean off their cars. The schools-Central NJ-closed today and tomorrow to the delight of the kiddies and the chagrin of the parents. Went out about 1400, the main roads and most of the side roads passable-if you drive carefully. Still snowing fairly steadily but gently as I write this (1818). Drove through town earlier, saw a couple of stalwarts on skiis. Biggest problems from this snow is that given the state of the economy a lot of businesses will be hard pressed to revover the lost revenues and many municipalities will be scrambling to cover the costs incurred.
I lived in Southwestern Vermont from 1956-1959, still miss the sledding I had there. I don't feel the cold, the coldest winter I remember-as an adult-was the Winter of 1993-1994, lots of Zero Degree days.
I have my TWO snow shovels, several pairs of winter boots, wool pants, gloves, hats, parkas, scarves.
Al Gore's punishment will be that he will be required to produce a lot of hot air to clear the snow around school, old people's homes, etc.

Moving snow isn't bad if Johnny helps

It is a typical El Nino winter here. We are having temps in the mid to high 40's for the next week.

For the last two winters we had nearly 100" of snow for the season. This year I think it is in the single digits or low teens (if you count the tail end of last year).

So, we are warm and wet, and you guys on the east coast and mid America are getting pummled.

My snow blower has only been out 2 times this year, not a very good investment so far.

Thought I had outsmarted the weatherman when I flew to Key West last Thursday...from BWI.

Got suddenly dumber when I arrived in Charlotte yesterday to find (not unexpectedly) that ALL flights to the mid-Atlantic were cancelled. Since they advised there would be NO flights out until Thursday I rented an AWD vehicle and trekked north. Made it to Lexington, VA, in miserable conditions last night. It was bright and sunny this morning went I hit the road anew but conditions rapidly deteriorated. It was still driveable by the time I hit Winchester, VA, but forecasts and a check of the 'Net suggested another stop was in order. So here I sit...though it is a comfortable position. Enlisted the aid of a nearby pal (he volunterred) and heading to BWI in the a.m.

Yes, my car is parked outdoors. I shall endeavor to post a photo...if I can find it. :p

Be safe.

PS:

Joking about finding it; parked at a hotel in a space very recognizable...whether my car is or is not remains to be seen.

I agree! The bad part is was the high winds, you do the sidewalk and drive way and it blows back in behind you. It finally stopped here about an hour ago, hoo-ray!

This whole thing fizzled out. Kind of a bummer. I like watching my wife and the kids shoveling.:)

As an ex Californian I can only say I hope you guys are enjoying your four seasons that I always heard we did not have.

Snowy here in Friendship Tn. Fred Thompson on his radio show said that it was so cold in DC that the Dem's had their hands in their own pockets!!!! I also heard that it was going to snow in the North East until Al Bore said UNCLE....

Two to four inches predicted for here tonight. We'll see. I know that's nothing like you guys are putting up with but two inches will cripple traffic here as we have no snow removal stuff. If it happens this will be our second snowfall this season, the last one around 12/10/09. Very unusual to get snow here. Even more unusual to get it twice. If it happens I'll probably be working traffic tomorrow as the court won't be in session.

yeah Bill, I feel yer pain: I saw 59 on my dashboard thermometer driving through Wahiawa yesterday morning.....

"You guys need to pack up and move down here to TEXAS. I just had a dump truck load of cow manure compost delivered for the garden. By this afternoon, it will be spread and tilled in, with onions going in next week. I would go crazy if I had to put up with what you are having to live with! Global warming sucks!"

Hey cass,

According to the map, y'all are getting snow too! :D
