I have a 15-22 waiting for Christmas Morning (Ms Claus did allow me to put 250 rounds through it a few weeks ago). I had some FTF, FTE issues but overall it did well. Tonight I cleaned some guns I shot today I got to thinking about loading the Mag. I tried to load it incorrectly and it was easy to do. I loaded a few mags very slowly and deliberately and was successful until this one….. As the photo shows, I still had three rounds in the wrong position. Most of the other incorrectly loaded rounds fixed themselves with a tap or pulling the spring back and releasing it. This one would not.
Then I got to thinking about how I shot some of my trial rounds with the mag resting on the bench or using the mag as a grip. So I removed the charging handle and bolt. With the gun "open" I inserted the mag. I moved it around quite a bit without much effort or pressure. It moved enough that it looks like it misaligned the round . I don't think firing it this way would cause some of the damages I'm seeing in this form, but it think it could cause some of the FTE, FTF and jamming issues.
At 0600 this Christmas morning I'm going to see if my theory is correct.
