I found one at my LGS today, with the box, paperwork, and one extra mag. It's lightly used but in pretty good shape, could stand a good cleaning. Any thoughts or experiences, anything in particular to look out for? Your help and advice is greatly appreciated!

I had one several years back, probably should have kept it. I owned it for quite awhile and never once did I experience a malfunction with it. Handloads, factory loads, with any bullet weight, it was just plain reliable! I traded it for a mini-14 when the assault weapon ban first was being talked about.

I have the 6909 which I belive is next generation of the 669.

It's the perfect carry pistol in 9mm for me. Mine came with 10 round mags but I aqquired 3 12 round LE mags very reasonably.

I just did my LEOSA requal with mine last weekend. Not one issue the whole day. Can't say that about the rest of guns that were being used....

And they weren't Smiths.....

The only new gun I ever bought in my life was a 469 in the early 80s
and I never had a problem. The 469 is the same as 669 but I was too
stinkin cheap to pay an extra $75 for stainless. Stupid me. For a quarter
a month for 30 years I could have had the Stainless 669 model.
It is up to you to determine value but the gun is good and will last
for ever. They are not real popular because they dont look so hot but
they are practical with short barrel and double stack clip and all the
modern pistol functions. I prefer to carry a single stack 39 because
the grip is narrower and the longer barrel does not bother me when
stuck inside my pants but the 469/669 is a good all around house
gun and not that great for plinking because of the shorter barrel.
I have a sneaky suspicion that if 50 years all the plastic guns are
going to turn brittle with age and crack and chip etc. Stainless is
forever without a doubt.

For several years, when I have traveled I carry a 669. I have never had a problem and it conceals well.

I bought one new in late '88, right when the 6906's were starting to show up, got a deal because everyone held out for the newer model. Love it. Still have it. Still use it. Not one problem with it, ever.

If the 669 is anything like my 6690, which is the transition gun between the 669 and the 6906, they are great. Mine has been flawless through several hundred rounds. As for accuracy, I can hit soda cans at 50+ yards, so I guess minute of BG isn't a problem.

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback! Any particular maintenance issues, other than the usual cleaning and oiling?

None that I've come across, shoot it, clean it, and it's ready to go when needed. I believe Wolff springs carries replacement spring kits for them, and spare magazines can be found at Midway, Brownells, or CDNN. If the 669 has the square trigger guard like my 6690, leather Glock 19 holsters work well. I use a Blackhawk IWB for mine and it carries as well as my 49 snubbie.

Hope this is helpful.

A10, the 669 is most likely a great gun but like all gen 1s and 2s they don't have a removable front sight. I have 2 gen2s and find the sights dismal at best. The gen 3 gives you the option to change out the sights , FOs or night sights even Novak adjustable. I like my gen 2s but options are good. Take a good look at the pics in post #3 and #4 both are beautiful guns but which would you choose ?

I took it to a range today, it functioned OK, one stovepipe but I blame me for that. It shot fairly well, I need more practice with the double/single action again. I broke it down when I got home and man was it dirty! It cleaned up fine, reassembly was a little problematic getting all the parts realigned. It seems like a keeper though!

You didnt tell us how much you paid for it ? ? ?

Oh and to the guy who hits soda cans as 50 yards... Maybe
one hit per full magazine of ammo.. No incentive to stretch
the truth here so why ? ?

Sounds like the one I bought two years ago! But a little spit and polish and she shines like a new penny! Might want to put a drop of loc tite on the port side safety if it comes loose, other than that it's a pure shooter!
One note about accuracy: for what ever reason the "mini-guns" tend to outshoot their bigger brothers! Something to do with a more rigid lock up or slower unlocking during firing. Whatever it is they tend to shoot real good!
And even if it is one shot to the can at 50yds, I still wouldn't want that guy shooting at me! Man sized target at 50 is still a lot bigger than said can...so imagine just how many times he could drill you! Dale

FYI it was 299 OTD. I didn't think I could go wrong with it. So far, I'm liking it a lot! And I'm thinking Badkarma is a mind reader, as the left side safety lever worked loose. I cleaned off as much oil as I could, then added a dab of fingernail polish to the threads and tigntened it down. Oughta do the job!

I kept 12 in the torso at 25 yards, it'll get better with practice.....

I spent a little time looking through my SCSW this evening for some background on the gun. Gunny, according to the book that 6690 of yours is a rare gun. Congratulations on that one!

Not the first time someone has inferred I'm full of it, so it's all good. Bring yourself up here on a road trip, and we'll take a look see.

Besides, the point I was trying to make was that if I can hit a soda can at 50+ yards, and I can (one round or twelve is irrelevant), that hitting a Bad Guy at normal defensive ranges would be easy. Sorry I didn't spell it out for you. Have a nice day. :)

I was lucky on that one, classified as scarce, there were fewer than 900 produced for distribution by RSR. I actually did a search on several forums, including this one, and can only account for 5 or 6. It's a shame to think they all just disappeared.

Enjoy your 669. I think the 6900 series is one of the best groups of firearms ever produced. Maybe one of these days when I'm visiting family in Yakima, I'll make a trip over your way and we'll shoot some cans. ;)
