...could save your life!

Wife and I just retuned from a few days vacation at a cabin in the Smoky Mountains.

Had an LCP not been in my pocket this could have been tragedy in the making. Whew....

Phil how large was that print? You know....?? I have seen a lot of grizzlies over the years and for the most part a good sized one weighs 350-450 lbs. Maybe less in Alaska...except for the Kodiak or costal grizzlies...Black bears however can quite often be very large...almost as large as an average Kodiak. One of my Tlinglit friends in Alaska told me if a black bear makes a charge he is serious and is probably going to kill you(and maybe eat you too). He said Grizzlies quite often make false charges....and some could be dissuaded from charging. Doesn't really matter though...any bear charge has got to need an undie change after the fact. BTW we just had another grizzly attack not long ago on a lady bowhunter and her guide. Guide was trying to protect the hunter(with a skinning knife) after the bear grabbed her. Both got chewed on a bit

I didn't measure it. There's black bear everywhere in the Smoky Mountains...

Not my vid, but this is typical for vacationers to run across in the area.

On that day we were in Sevierville for the wife to do her Tanger shopping thing while I hang outside the shops with Coondog talking to all the other guys waiting on their wives shopping. The one Tanger shop that I looked forward to visiting was Bose but they left a few years ago... grrrrrr. We were in Gatlinburg the next day.

Coondog loved Gatlinburg...

Most grizzlies go 350 to 450#s.Well,in my neck of the woods, there ain't no griz, only blacks. And when I came upon a 300(only)pounds mamma bear with her 2 cubs, let me tell you, each and every pound of her looked a lot heavier than my pounds!Exept after,my pants were a lot heavier(didn't have any hardware with me)!

And you can bet...

Evidently LCP does not stand for Large Caliber Pistol.;)

Try stumbling across a still steaming pile of bear poop. Now you have something to worry about!

He'll be feelin' frisky after dropping that steamer!

Some hunter killed a black bear not too long ago with a bow that weighed around 900 lbs in Pa.

Happened twice on the same trail all during the same day .. was in Alaska .. three of us carried a canoe and fishing poles on a path to a walk in lake .. on the way back to the truck 3/4 of a mile to the road for more gear we came across two large steaming piles about 100 yards apart .. each right in the middle of the path !! We were already making the usual noise but all of us pulled our pistols and carried at the ready and made even more noise .. there were tracks the next morning around the truck camper we were sleeping in ..

Never did see them !!

As idiotic as that idea is......

Polar bears eh? I hope they "read up" on how they "interact" with humans=lunch. One of the most asinine ideas I have ever heard regarding wildlife.

The article reads like the real deal until the end when they make even more outrageous claims and finally admit it an April Fools Day article.

It makes you think though, what if they REALLY did introduce a large population of polar bears, or even Grizzly or Brown bears into the Smokies. People wouldn't be able to leave their cars.

I grew up in the shadow of the Smokies and spent a lot of time there years back. One of the dumbest things I ever witnessed was some guy trying to catch a bear cub. About the time he laid hands on the cub, Momma appeared. Boy, she was mad, and she was fast. He barely escaped with his hide intact. Pun intended. :D
