Three Chiefs - I Just Couldn't Help Myself

I really like the Blue RB Chief.... That's likely the one I would have taken .
Do you know what year(s) they are . Also if you don't mind could you give a ball park figure for either of the Blue models.
They're all very nice and in excellent condition but I'm partial to Blue rather than nickel finish.

I have not gotten ship dates yet. So the closest I can come is per Bob, above (who keeps a pretty extensive database on the Chiefs):

Blue round butt: probably summer 1968

Blue square butt: probably summer 1967

Nickel: probably 1981 (I just don't have any close to it in the database to narrow it down more than that).

The SB Blue was $489 plus tax, the RB Blue was $559 plus tax and the Nickel was $539 plus tax (and the sales tax at this gun store, located in a county island, is only 6.3%). Overall, not a steal, but what I thought to be reasonable prices for the condition of the guns.

Hope that helps,

I don't know why but I've liked the S&W snub nose revolvers since I was a boy but I've never owned one.
I do have a Taurus Model 85 which is basically a S&W knock off . It was given to me a number of years ago and is of pretty decent quality for the price and I can't find fault with it .
But of course it's not a Smith & Wesson .
Smith & Wesson has brought the Classic 36 back on the market , but it sells for over $800 .
While I'm sure it's pretty nice I would take the RB that you paid $559 before the new Classic 36 without thinking twice .
I wouldn't be interested in one to carry or even to shoot very often ....I would just like to have one .

Well said. I long ago discovered that when I find a model I like, I have a hard time stopping at just one...:D:rolleyes: Hence the trio above (and a few more that I have in my safe).

AWESOME !
My very first revolver was a 2" Square Butt Chief's Special ...blue
w/ a Tyler T-Grip Adapter ... It is Still a big favorite ...
Color me ... Green !

You made a great Triple-Play there RKmesa. Those prices were pretty good when comparing each one to the Classic price. But, the real cool part is that you got all 3 shown to you at the same time during that one trip into the store. See...that's why I ALWAYS ask the same thing when in my favorite LGS where I've found many nice S&Ws.

You never know what will be laid on the counter!
