Did all the Thunder Ranch 44's come with display cases? Also, I found an unfired one with the documentation and display case, but it doesn't have the typical rosewood smooth grips. Rather, it has antler grips. Were these available as options or did a prior owner pull a swith a roo and ruin the value?

Not all 21-4 TR's came with a wood case, mine just had the standard plastic box. Never seen a factory stag grip option.

Mine did not come with a presentation case either, just a plastic S&W box.

How would changing the grips ruin the value ? There are many sets of stock grips available. I've got a set I'll sell you. The TR 's haven't really attained "collector status anyway. Mine has been sent to the smith for action work, cylinder chamfering and is waiting to go to Alpha to have it accurized. I'll then have it hard chromed at Accurate. Hardly "ruined". If nothing else a slick looking, accurate, warmed over gun increases in value to a lot of people.

Thanks for the input. I didn't mean to offend anyone with the "ruined" phrase. Rather, it's being marketed as all original and touted with a premium for the stag grips. I think $900 might be bit steep, for something which hasn't attained collector status.
