Congratulations to the OKC Thunder for winning the NBA championship for our little town! They are a pretty nice group of youngsters that don't hog the ball or beat their chest and scream how great they are. They're very unselfish players that are not great shooters but play outstanding defense in a game where the scores have really gotten high and the top scoring players get all the headlines. But as in many sports, defense and teamwork wins games. OKC is having a parade tomorrow for them and several hundred thousand are expected to attend, I hope all the fans behave themselves and act as dignified as the players do.

Congratulations to an amazing town. My memory of OK City is an old one. In the mid 1950's my younger brother had a seizure disorder similar to epilepsy. One of the leading physicians for that type of malady practiced in OK City and we lived in the Ft. Worth area. We made monthly trips there for nearly two years. (My brother improved and lived long enough to raise a family, but succumbed to cancer in his early sixties.)

One of my more vivid memories is of all the old wooden oil derricks that were still standing in the city at that time. It looked like a forest. I really don't know in what era they were removed. An old memory, but it still abides.

My son-in-law is a Thunder fan and got to attend Game 7 for free because he is a friend of the Thunder's team physician. He had a third row baseline seat alongside the Thunder's entrance tunnel. He said the crowd noise throughout the game was deafening. He asked a couple of guys seated in front of him how much they paid for their tickets, and they said $23,000. Each. It's good to be the friend of the team physician!
