I am trying to determine the correct Stocks for my N frame revolvers. Can anyone provide a time line for the different styles of N frame stocks? I think the Diamond insert Targets, (non Cokes) were introduced some time in the 60s, then came the Football relieved stocks, and then another styled type of relief cut through the 80s? And there may well be additional type of relief cut Stocks that I am unaware of. Any input will be appreciated.

If you tell me tha age of your N-frames I can probably tell you what stocks are most likely correct for them.

N Frame Stocks

Ok Doc, here are the approx. dobs as per my SCSW

Model 29-2 SN 3316744 DOB 1968 - (1969 Guess 1968)
Model 629 No Dash SN N854893 DOB 1981
Model 25-2 SN N405012 DOB 1972 - 1978 (Guess 1973)
Model 28-2 SN N225182 DOB 1974 - 1977 (Guess 1974)

And just for grins and giggles, how about a....

Model 19-3 SN4K34443 DOB 1973

Thank you Doc, I truly appreciate the help.

Your 629 dates to 1981 and the first photo shows the correct stocks for it. The stock panel on the left side has the "football" relieved area (not the complete cutout). Your 29-2 dates to 1969 and the second photo shows the correct stocks for it. Your 25-2 probably dates to 1977 and would have the same type of stocks that are on the 629. Your 19-3 dates to 1973 and would have been shipped with the same type of stocks shown on the Model 66 (third photo). Your 28-2 most likely dates to 1974/75 and would have probably shipped with Magna stocks made of walnut (photo 4). If target stocks were put on the 28-2 they would be non-diamond and made of walnut.
