Last Tuesday I bought an exercise bike at Academy. I decided I didn't want to put it together so I'm having it delivered. I've received several text messages saying my appointment is 4 to 9 pm today. At 12:00 today I get a text that says 4to 9 pm UTC. Something hit me and said I better call and ask what UTC means. Apparently my appointment is from 12 to 4 pm EST.
Did I miss something in school. Does anyone else know what this is without google. Now I'm sitting here waiting.

EST is UTC-5 (hours).

Don't forget to factor in DST to the ETA! :D

Coordinated Universal Time aka Greenwich Mean time or military Zulu time. The time at the British Greenwich Observatory. Times west of Greenwich are expressed as a minus UTC. Makes a difference if your state is on daylight saving time. United states is from -5 to -8 UTC/GMT. Eastern time would be -5 GMT. Aren't you glad they didn't tell you -5 Zulu!

Be happy you aren't in Newfoundland, they are in a 1/2 time zone or -3 1/2 GMT.

After I read up on it I thought maybe they made a dst mistake. Should have been 11 to 3 edst for 4 to 9 UTC. I think.

Was in Page, AZ. A small town on deeded land in the middle of Navajo Reservation.
AZ don't do DST. Navajo Nation do do DST.
Not sure what time is on my phone.
Ask the Motel Desk clerk who laughs.
Want to go to the Slot Canyons just outside of town on the Rez.
Want to go late, low sun.
Before they close!
Figured it out!

I have to use it when I do a Solar Observation. Plus count the "double ticks" to see how many 10ths of a second I may have to factor in.

......Does anybody really care?

There was a time (No pun intended.), about 35 years ago, when my time was dictated by my lead secretary, and or my scheduling secretary, and or my BOSS---who took precedence over pretty much any and everybody (and anything) else----"the good old days".

Now, while I have a watch with a calendar which needs to be reset to cope with certain months other than whatever the watchmaker deemed to be normal months, I frequently find what the watch says is the date isn't. That's because I haven't reset the watch in several months----five months one time.

As it stands now, while I know what time it is (unless DST has screwed things up), I don't know the date--and also don't know the day of the week.

The good news is I couldn't care less----'cause I can look out the window and see if it's day or night---and I know when I'm hungry.

The even better news is the clock in my car knows what time it is---and changes it when necessary---which is fairy often, because while I live in central time, eastern time is 8 miles away---if I head east---and about 35 miles away if I head south. I haven't figured that one out yet, but again, I couldn't care less.

I think that that UTC or CUT should be abbreviated CTU for Coordinated Time, Universal. This way the letters are in alphabetical order.

Of course, they already were with GMT.

Zulu time? De mortuis, nil nisi bonum, as the Romans used to say.
