I started to collect tip ups and top breaks with 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" barrels.

The Model 1 - 3rd issue was made with a 2 11/16" barrel. I found a nickel one. Did they make a blue one?

The Model 1 1/2 - 2nd issue was made in this barrel size in blue and nickel.

Top breaks were made in this barrel length on special order.

Are there other short barreled models with this barrel length and do you mind sharing some pictures if you have them?

Thanks iby, its one of my favorites. All shown are factory barrel lengths in the 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 range.

"The Model 1 - 3rd issue was made with a 2 11/16" barrel. I found a nickel one. Did they make a blue one?" Yes! I'll see if I have a photo.

Thanks for sharing Mike!. They are either more common than I first thought, or you have been collecting for a long time. Nice collection.

Collecting for a long time. I had a display last June at the Glendale Symposium titled: Rare, Scarce or Uncommon Smith & Wesson Tip-up and Top Break Revolvers. I attempted to find production numbers on the Model 1, 3rd Issue, 2 11/16" barrel but the best that I had was that they were Uncommon. Thanks for the compliment.

The model 1, 3rd issue also came in 1/2 plate and 1/2 nickel. Guess that finish is pretty rare in the short barrel.

Don't know much about these cute little tip ups.

Wanted to go to the Glendale Symposium, went to a family reunion instead. Hope to make it to one someday.

Hmmm... Don't know that I've ever seen the 2 line patents rolled on the side of a 38 barrel before. The 32's have that feature. Has anyone else seen the patents on the side of 38 short barreled gun before?

Beautiful gun. Looks like factory to me.

The Safety Hammerless and Perfected pictured above have the patents on the top of the rib on the barrel. It starts just past the front sight and rolls up the barrel rib and is not complete. Both letter as factory original 2 1/2" guns. You never know with special orders or re-works by the factory.
