I was using the 550 last night to load 45acp and noticed several primers were tipping and being seated sideways. Is the plastic tip on the primer tube wearing out?

The inner drop tube is probably not fully seated. The little wing on the tip must be turned so it fits into a slot. Tthat way the plastic tip just clears the seating plunger. That way there's no opportunity for the primer to tip. The plastic tip should not have any gaps or chips in it. The tube must be empty before you attempt to check or make an adjustment, or the primers will spill all over creation.

ck yer set screw stop. sometimes mine works loose, causing the primer cup to travel a bit to far and when the shell is brought down to be primed the primer will bump the side of the hole and flip.

tipped primers

+ 1 on set screw stop - its usually the cause of primer tipping when things get out of adjustment. The magazine tube tips typically last almost forever if properly inserted with the "key in the slot"

It seems to be a common problem that I get as well. I haven't been able to adjust anything to fix it. Also, a fired primer falling back into the primer pocket hole sometimes happens. I unhooked the return spring and just slide the primer feed back and forth manually so that I could see the good primer getting correctly fed. It's easier for me than a sideways primer jamming up the system or an upside down primer somehow making it past my exhausting checks to the loading table.
