Tire pressure gauge problem

My digital tire pressure gauge has a problem getting readings off one of our cars. I think there is something odd with the valves in the way they open when applying the gauge. Anybody else experienced this?

The gauge is getting old, and the battery is a non-serviceable part , so what is a decent gauge these days and how much do they cost.

Get a simple gauge that doesn't use a battery. They work well and last.

I have an old fashioned dial guage by the compressor and an ancient pencil gauge in the console. Bought the dial gauge because I can’t squint hard enough to use the ancient one

I went to Northern Tools & bought a mid-line gauge. Not the cheapest one, not the most expensive one (NAPA or Snap-On).

No batteries, dial readings & it locks onto the reading so I can pull it close enough to read it.

Problem solved.

I have a cheapie digital gauge I bought from Sears probably in the mid to late 90s. Still works, battery and all!

I tested it against several other gauges and it was within +/- 1 psi or so of the best ones.

Of course, Sears is defunct now, but mine looks and awful lot like this one:

Just don't buy the cheapest one from WalMart. I did once, and the first time I used it the barrel part blew off the chuck part and flew across the garage.

I have an analog dial gauge that I've used for a few years. It's accurate enough, though probably not laboratory accurate. I bought it at Auto Zone for $15 or so a few years back.

I have two pencil gauges. They read different by 8 psi. One pencil gauge reads about a pound off from the digital one I trust. There is a digital gauge in my compressor, and estimate it under-reads by three or four pounds. Trouble is when you look at the specs of many of these devices, +/-10% is not uncommon. When you are looking at at least 30 psi in a tire, it is an error that can make quite a difference in ride and handling.

I bought this from Amazon a year or so ago, got tired of inaccurate gauges and this simplifies things by being able to clip it on and add or remove air while reading pressure. As far as accuracy goes it reads exactly the same as the tpms system in my Mustang so I think it's right on.

I have a dial gauge that came with my Viair compressor. Seems to work pretty well.

I use a Blue Point digital from Snap-On. I believe #2 son got it off the Snap-On truck. Several years ago, I think it was 135.00. I have checked it against various pencil gauges, and they can be off quite a bit

Look at a Milton 921 or S921(skin pack).
Stainless steel, American made, for about $6-$8.
I sold hundreds, maybe thousands, before I worked at my present employer.
NAPA doesn’t sell the brand. You might need to find an independent store.

Pencil gauges for bicycles.... that can go up to 115psi.
The Jaco for cars, trucks and motorcycles.

I use a 0-60psi gauge from Joes Racing. These have been accurate and dependable for me for a long time. I think I have three of them now. Use them on both the race cars and street cars and my motorcycle. Also reasonably priced. Amazon has them as well.
