I know there was a helpful thread on dating SW's, but have been unable to locate it. Trying to find the date my TL # 5798 was made, can anyone point me in the direction of that thread?

Thanks.

You best bet is to join the SWCA. You receive a great magazine, there is a searchable data base AND you can request a month/year shipping date from Dr. Roy Jinks for free. These are just a few of the benefits of membership.
I agree, it's a valuable resource...I sent my applications and checks for both the SWCA and the S&WHF the same day two weeks ago, and I was accepted by the SWCA almost immediately...I have yet to hear from the S&WHF, but neither check has cleared my bank yet, so maybe it just takes a while...Either way, I'm happy to have the additional resources to mine for information on my swelling accumulation...:D...Ben

According to the Standard Catalog of S&W, 4th Edition, your triple lock was made in 1910. For notable threads, click on the sticky post titled Notable Threads Index and scroll down to the triple lock section. There really hasn't been a comprehensive thread on .44 triple locks recently. You may be remembering seeing the thread on 1st model .455 British Service Revolvers started by Hondo44. In it, he collects a lot of data including shipping dates which he tabulates. It's an interesting thread but not applicable to your situation.

Well, both you and Muley Gil make compelling cases for 2 great outfits! I always appreciate sound counsel, so thank you!

Guy, thank you very much. I really appreciate your help and will look over the Notable Threads as you suggest.

I had two------------

#3976 (which I'm told was a first year gun) shipped early in the 2nd year---February 23, 1909.

#10688 shipped October 9, 1915,

Ralph Tremaine

As an aside, both of these were .44 Special.
