To install the DCAEK kit, or to not install ...

I bought the DCAEK kit recently and couldn't wait to get it installed in my M&P9. But here's the rub ... as much as I hated that stock "sandy" trigger, I shoot so well with it now that I'm almost afraid the DCAEK install is going to mess that up!

I'm on a roll with this thing and wondering if the kit will mess up my shooting. I'm sure it may in the short term, but as I get used to the new trigger I'm really hoping I'll be even better.

Ok so I just answered my own question - I'm going to install it anyway.


Any thoughts on this or am I just being a nut!

This is an interesting thread, people usually don't answer their own questions.

I'd say go ahead and install it. If you don't like it you can always take it out and sell it on here. That's the nice thing about their kit, nothing is permanent.

I agree. Install it and if you don't like it take it out and go back to what you had. Everyone I know that has installed one,including myself,love it.

Why did you decide on the Duty/Carry AEK rather than the Competition AEK - and what's the difference between the two?

The trigger pull on the competition AEK is about 3.5 lb - I'd be scared to breathe on that without it going off. Seriously though I really just wanted a smoother trigger and don't need that much of a drop in the trigger lb, so the DCAEK seems right.

Probably a broken record on my part by now, but if you have (or can scrounge) the necessary roll pin punches, and can deal with the microscopic sear spring & plunger, it's a fairly easy installation. Randy's videos really cover it well.

(Just plan on doing the sear and spring/plunger at the same time. IMHO, there's a slight advantage to doing the trigger spring while the sear assembly is out of the gun, too, but not much. You can do the drop safety plunger anytime; getting the rear sight off can be interesting, but I had no problem. I did use a sight pusher, though, but it seemed like it would have been easy enough with just a nylon punch.)

I ended up with a DCAEK on two M&Ps - a Compact and a Full Size. Quite a difference when just the Compact had been done.

(IMHO, any smith ought to be able to do this for about a 30 minute bench charge if he's seen the videos or done it before. 1911 guys also should be able to handle it if they've got the roll pin punch and a magnifier .... I'm a 1911 guy and had to rebuild a P3AT a couple times. Close enough.... Or, as I tell people, I usually get the grips back on the correct side of a 1911.... )

Thanks all for your replies - I now have the DCAEK installed.

I guess it's all relative but the install removed none of the crunchiness for me. I keep comparing it to the FNX-9, which has a super-smooth trigger, and it's nowhere near that. It'll probably improve after a few more hundred rounds.

No matter though, the reset makes up for everything - what a world of difference. Can't wait to put some downrange with the new setup.
