Toby Keith RIP

He was a great performer and a really nice guy. I was fortunate to meet him backstage after one of his performances in Nashville. Think it was 1999. Toby was a very down to earth, personable guy. He had no “airs” at all. We talked about his family, and music in general. He was also a big guy. I’m 6’ 2”, and he was taller than me, and had big mitts for hands. He was just a cool, good ol’ country guy, with a twinkle in his eye.

Condolences to his family. Millions of his fans will miss him, he was one of the few that were “ down to earth regular guy “. He used to set up a basketball hoop outside his tour bus and anyone could join in the game.
RIP Toby.

Cool you mentioned the basketball hoop, back in the 90's he played at our local county fair a couple of times. This morning one of the announcers on the local county music station mentioned he played pickup ball with Toby.

He was from Moore OK where I currently live. If you ever travel down Interstate 35 through Oklahoma City stop at his restaurant at the 19th street exit in Moore. The chicken fried steak is delicious and you can take home half of it and have second meal later.

I had the pleasure of watching Toby Keith perform for the military in Afghanistan and Iraq. What a great American, we had rocket attack and everyone scrambled to bunkers. Once the "All Clear" was sounded his band and him jumped back on stage and played for hours more.
What a Great American who will be sorely missed.
