On a hot, Sunday afternoon on June 25th, 1876, the battle of the Little Bighorn pitted federal troops, lead by Lt. Colonel (Brevet Major General) George Custer against forces of Sioux and Cheyenne. Custer and some 200 men in his battalion were all killed. It marked the most decisive victory by the Plains Indians and worst U.S. Army defeat of Plains Indian War.

Interesting historical parallel:

Custer at the Little Bighorn, MacArthur at the Yalu River.

Two undoubtedly gifted generals who did great service to the country at one time, but whose hubris ended up getting a lot of their soldiers killed.

At least Custer had the good grace to die with his troops. For purely political reasons, MacArthur got a victory parade out of it, and almost a presidential candidacy (which, by the way, was also part of Custer’s long-term ambitions).

Hopefully the Korean War impacted Stalin's health negatively enough to expedite his demise. My father had his orders to go which were cancelled when Uncle Joe had the grace to finally die.Inchon had to be the zenith of MacArthur's career and Chosin the low point
