Although I reload most of my ammo I do sometimes buy some ammo.

At Cabela's today that had a limited amount of handgun ammo but I felt the prices were too high.

Both American Eagle
115gr 9mm FMJ, 100 rounds, $34.99
230gr 45 Auto FMJ, 50 rounds, $36.99

55gr .223 ammo, 20 rounds, $20.99!!!
A few dozen 50 round CCI 22 Mag and 17 Mag plastic boxes but no 22LR ammo at all. (the sign said a limit of 2X 50 round boxes)
There was more but I think you get the idea...

Needless to say I did not buy any ammo today!

As a side, they had Winchester LRP and LPP and they were $37.99/k. No small rifle primers at all but they did have CCI #35 primers. (50 Cal)

Right on...................

My last trip was Thursday, to the ammo store and after looking at all the ammo and stuff................
I walked out with fishing gear.

You may be seeing the new "normal". You are also seeing why I had an order in for 2000 bullets from RMR and have 6 pounds of SR7625 coming in the next week or two. The only ammunition I'll purchase going forward is rimfire and for that I'm waiting until it becomes widely available again.

BTW, if you didn't like what you saw at Cabela's make sure you don't wander into a Gander Mountain. Ammo prices at GM were flat out STUPID way before the current panic, summers ago GM wanted 29.50 for a 50 round box of that American Eagle you were looking at. I was in Gander Mountain recently looking for components and when I saw that they wanted 34.95 for a 100 count bag of Winchester 45 ACP UNPRIMED brass I walked out in disgust.

I went to Cabellas yesterday and American Eagle 9mm was 17.99 per 50 and the .45 was 25.99 per 50.

was the $37 Federal 45 hardball in a black box? Cabela's has the same price on some Federal 45 hardball but it is marked for use with suppressors. supposedly it has a different powder that burns cleaner.

like some. retired. fixed income. over the years i have learned patience. it sometimes leaves my wife almost speechless:), some old friends are amazed. i learned to reflect like a pond when it is calm, but also enjoy the wind on my face. but still have in my inner core the mode to protect myself and wife. she always wants me to purchase weapons. never cared for the ar-15, but at times i thought i wanted /needed one. so back to ammo, my 2 cts. i've reloaded 45 yrs. ago, can again. like the weapons that doubled in price, now are comeing down in price. so will the ammo, not as low as a year ago, but lower than now. if its on the shelves and we don't buy it, they just have to eat it don't they. lets keep our faces in the wind, it will be what it is.

Our GM has all but got out of reloading stuff. They DO ahve a bit of powder in a cabinet, which by the way I found 3 boxes of 45ACP laying. Must have been for an employee- too bad, I made them sell me a box, just for the hell of it. :p

If ammo and gun prices ever come back to what I consider a normal and fair price I will remember the the stores that took advantage. Their is a local gun store here that has always had fair prices, limited that amount of boxes per customer so everyone has a chance of a purchase unlike walmart who will let some buy 15 boxes even thou their is ten people standing in line waiting their turn. That local gun store will get my business even if I have to pay a little more.

High ammo prices will drive many out of shooting and gun ownership.

If this lasts too long the old guys will throw up their hands and young guys will never have a hand in it.

I do have hope that this will settle down, but only because there's a mid-term election in '14.

earlier in the week Cabela's had some Lapau 22 match ammo. the lower priced brick was $150 and the higher priced brick was $200. I don't know how realistic the prices of the ammo are but they were both gone yesterday

34.99 for 100 9mm is about the same as last years prices in this area.
But 36.99 for 50 45 acp or 20.99 for 20 55 gr 223 seems a bit much.
A local big box store, not Walmart, had Win 55 gr FMJ 20 rd boxes for
11.99 yesterday.

If they sold, they were realistically priced.

All I know is, the new normal is going to be very bad for all shooters. Before 2008 a brick of 22LR was under $10. After the first Obama scare the same brick was rarely under $20. I now fear the price will double again because the ammo companies now know what some shooters are willing to pay.

We are our worst enemies. If everyone would refuse to pay inflated prices the prices would go down instead of everyone buying everything they see no matter the price. PLEASE STOP OVERPAYING!

I got 200 rounds of Winchester Powerpoints left to shoot and when they are gone I will clean the K-22 up and put it away. I will not over pay for 22 ammo or any other ammo for that matter
