I saw the thread about the new one coming out on the HM Channel. We had never seen any of them, so when we got Netflix a month or so back, we started renting a couple a weekend. We have seen five so far.

Selleck carries a 1911 in many of his pictures. According to the movie/firearms database, he carries a S&W 1911 in the Stone movies. We watched "Thin Ice" last night. In addition to the 1911, he had a Model 36, according to the database. Looked to have some kind of stag grips. He used the 1911 with his left hand in an early scene, because he had been wounded in the right arm. Later, in a scene at the range, "Suit" chided him for having the safety on the wrong side to be firing left handed. Selleck opined that ambi safeties break too easily. Looked like a Beretta the female cop had. I didn't notice what Suit was shooting.

In an earlier movie, Selleck used the 1911 both right and left handed when he was attacked in his home by a bad guy. His gun handling appears to be right skillful.

In another range scene from one of the first movies we watched, Stone tells Suit, "In a fight, front sight."

In the range scene from "Thin Ice," there is a can of oil on the table where they are seen loading magazines. I had my daughter freeze the action so I could identify the oil. Yep. It was 3-IN-ONE, just like I still use.:D

The movies are just "pretty fair" in my estimation. If Selleck wasn't the main character, I probably wouldn't watch them. At least one of them, the one where he was hallucinating and having nightmares about the dead girl found in the lake, was just about too dark for me.

Some stuff he's right about while others are half right. It's a movie.

"In a fight front sight" is actually the right way unless you are far far away

I am a big fan of the books (RIP Robert Parker), the Stone character is a lot younger than Selleck, but once I just took in the films on their own merits I really enjoyed them.

I learned to shoot with a 1911 at age 12 (46 yrs ago lol) and always like to see them used properly in entertainment productions.

Those movies are great. I have only rented them though. When will the new one be out, and will it be on cable or straight to video?

In the books Parker wrote, Stone carried a short S&W. Parker seemed to be fond of the Model 36, as both Stone and Spencer carried them. But Parker apparently knew jack-squat abut them, for at least one of his books has Spencer carrying it with an empty chamber under the hammer.

I think at least one of the post-Parker Stone novels has him carrying some flavor of 1911.

I don't think Parker ever said "Model 36." He just referred to snub .38 Smith & Wessons. I sort of picture Stone with a Model 60, but either could be the case.

I don't recall the Jesse of the books using other than a snub .38, but could be wrong.

Spenser carried several guns over the course of many books. These included an unknown S&W .357, S&W snub .38, unknown .32 revolver, and a Browning Hi-Power and S&W .40 cal., don't think model was stated.

I think his Sunny Randall character used snub .38's.

Selleck seems to like 1911's since he played Magnum, PI. I always found it odd that a guy whose name suggested that he should have a .357 carried a stolen M-1911A-1 .45.

I don't like the Stone films. Selleck is far too old for the role, none of the co-stars is like in the books, and the whole town is just plain depressing. Selleck is far more believable in, Blue Bloods.

I also learned to shoot with a 1911. My cousin came home from Korea with one in 1954, when I was 10.. He was home on leave when the conflict ended and they told him to stay there. He brought it out and we had a ball.

I often wonder what happened to that 45.

I like those Jessie Stone movies a lot. I like the character, except for the part of him that obsesses on his ex wife.

I never saw the TV series made of the Spenser books. Was that any good?

And I think Selleck's cowboy movies are great. Never did get into the Magnum, PI, show though....

I think Tom Selleck is one of the good guys.

Currently, I do not have the time to watch Blue Bloods, or the Jessie Stone Series, but I will when time permits. Judging by how many times BB is on tv each day, (not to mention reruns of Magnum) Tom has the golden touch when it comes to successful shows.

I think all the Jessie Stone movies have a rather dark tone to them.

Yes, the TV series, Spenser For Hire was excellent, starring Robt. Urich. The cast was like the books and Parker was an advisor on the series.

But Spenser on TV carried a Beretta 9mm, which he never did in the books.

I read somewhere that Parker had a concealed carry lic. in MA. If true, he may have been the sole author to have such a license. But I wouldn't be especially surprised to learn that Erle Stanley Gardner may have had one.

Most authors are liberals and live in states where carrying guns is rare. John Sandford may carry in MN. He does know something about guns and he hunts. C.J. Box owns a Remington 870 for hunting but gets his game warden gun data from a real warden.

The late Donald Hamilton was probably the only novelist who really knew a lot about firearms and he was also an outdoor writer.

I may be incorrect, but isnn't Stephen Hunter of the Jack Reacher novels a bit of a gun guy?

Stephen Hunter is a huge gun guy. Has a big collection. He's the author of the Bob Lee Swagger novels and his gun details in his books is dead on. I've seen him a bunch of times on gun shows like the History of the Gun.

I like the stone movies, but they are depressing. Jesse is a depressing guy. And Selleck is a big 1911 fan. One episode of Blue Bloods had him carrying a "Fitz Special" I believe it was called. Gun has no front on the trigger guard to aid in fast shooting. And he went to the range once with his daughter and he was shooting a 1911.

I like Selleck in most movies but never have cared much for Blue Bloods. Dunno why, just hasn't caught my attention when I've watched a bit. I do like the Jesse Stone series very much, as well as the western style movies he's been in. I also appreciate his stand for gun ownership and use.

Can anyone tell me when the next "new" Jessie Stone movie is scheduled to be shown on Hallmark Channel? I'd appreciate knowing that.
