Tom Selleck/Jesse Stone: Random Observations

I love the Selleck cowboy movies. The short shorts in Magnum PI was a little hard to get into. Jesse Stone series is watchable. Close to good.

Never heard any dirt on Selleck. I've seen all his westerns and Jesse Stone shows. It has made for a more harmonious out come!

Don't think there is any dirt on Selleck. Yes he is a true gun guy. In his westerns he always tried to use guns that were period correct and he is a 1911 fan. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the NRA and has been for years.

In an interview after "Quigley Down Under" came out Selleck credited his
father with teaching him gun safety. He checked the action of a Sharps rifle during the conversation.

"My dad taught me to always check when you get handed a gun."
( my paraphrase).

In one of the films Stone injures his hand and starts carrying a
Smith K-frame right afterward.

Made sense to me cause I did something similar when I sprained my
wrist at a match once.

For those inquiring, Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise is currently filming and is scheduled to air Fall 2015.

Good to hear! I agree with most that they are average so-so movies, but for some reason we keep watching them. Have them all on DVD and was wondering if there would be more. We always found them on the cheap-o DVD rack at Fred Meyers, but then one day last summer Costco had the whole package with all the DVD's plus a PPD ball hat - couldn't resist.

I can not wait for the new Jessie Stone. I love to re-watch all the movies in the series. I love Tom Selleck's work, never get to critical of Hollywood's take on real versus what makes a good movie.

Stephen Hunter is definitely a gun guy, but he came to it a bit late, as I did, and some of his earlier novels, including POI, contain a serious error or two. Nevertheless, he does an excellent job.

Jack Reacher? Now there is an unbelievable set of "facts."

Someone on here explained why Jessie doesn't pet his Golden much. Apparently his original dog died and this one was a stray he took in so he doesn't want to get too close to it. Is that correct?

Also Jessie has a drinking problem but always seems to get the young girl in each episode. Good for him.

Also, script-wise, I believe he inherited the Fitz Special .38 snubby from his father. Unless I'm mistaken, he also carries one in Blue Bloods. And don't kid yourself; in spite his age, Selleck can get any girl he wants, in the movies or real life. He's smooth and entirely believable. I can't believe his aide "Baker" hasn't hit on him yet in Blue Bloods.

Tom Selleck has been a hit star of mine for a long time. Magnum was great fodder in the early '80s...watch it now...so bad, but fun. To me, Jesse Stone is real, though the films seem to happen too far from Boston. We have them all! I do hope the series end film is produced. Blue Bloods was hard at first for me to get into, though now, I find myself looking forward to Friday night! Tom is a great small screen money maker (like Clint in big films) and his films, to me have been good to great! His Knowledge of his guns makes the movies very believable!

If you didn't see Selleck as Eisenhower in "Countdown To D-Day" (I believe that was the title), you should. He was excellent; and the guy who played Montgomery was an absolute dead ringer for Monty, voice, mannerisms and all.

Tom Selleck is the only actor I would enjoy actually meeting...the rest ( other than Clint Eastwood) are so full of themselves....

I met Selleck at NRA show in Louisville. He stopped at Eagle grip and was looking for his grips. Thanked him for his support. Pretty straight up guy.

Make the time. In addition to the good action sequences, family values are heavily stressed. Very unusual these days. Kind of a modern-day morality play,if you will.

Well stated. It's so atypical compared to everything else on TV. A few weeks ago I started recording them on ION TV and having mini Blue Bloods marathons each night watching a few at a time starting with season 1.
