Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier

Yesterday on TV, they showed the Class A dress soldiers on their prescribed drill. Magazine was visible on their rifle and also pistol.
The rigorous dress and physical conditions are something else!

I watched a documentary on PBS about WW1. Unbelievable what the soldiers went through and how they were ordered to give up their lives. I was even amazed at how badly some vets were treated when they got back home to the states. I just shook my head so many times watching that documentary. War is hell for everyone and it is time for peace.

Was it the three-part documentary on American Experience? I watched it, too. An incredible documentary. I learned a lot about the war from it, especially about how troubling it became for General Pershing. I was totally unfamiliar with so many aspects of that war.

It's one of those films I'm seriously thinking about buying on DVD.

I checked their website and found you could post questions. I asked why the carry M14s. I got a response that said the M14 was the best looking battle rifle so they adopted it as their rifle. I agree with them.
It's also magazine fed, unlike the M-1 thumbbuster, and it's a much better club than an M-16 or M-4.

Yes-I believe that WWI troops, and Vietnam Vets have the most in common.

Among other things I learned that are required of them, beyond their weight and size, I was surprised to find out that the term for the guards is 2 years, that they live under the tomb, that they take a solemn oath to never use profanity or drink alcohol for the rest of their lives, and much more-wow!!!!

My (step) dad's father was a WW I Army veteran who was gassed in one of the battles. My dad told me that HIS dad told him over and over again, if you join up, don't pick the Army and be a dogface like I was.

When WW II started, my dad tried to join the Army Air Corps, like his brother did, but was turned down. He tried the Marines and the Navy and was turned down again, because of his teeth. He was finally able to join the Navy in April 1942 by signing a waiver, saying that he would be responsible for his own dental problems and not the Navy.
