top-break factory grips??

Just picked up this top-break DA 38. Anyone familiar with these grips? I can find no other photos of similar grips. I first thought they must be replacements but after disassembling them I'm not so sure...........

Also any recommendation for a SA notch that won't hold. Parts available?? (Hammer or sear) I'm thinking I may just round over the notch and give up the SA. Otherwise feels too dangerous.

Those look like extension target grips found on Single shot target pistols or the Bekeart style 22/32 target. Since those were both similar to I Frame, the stocks would probably fit the small frame top break's, or come close. These may have been an option on special order in the 20's or 30's.

H Richard has it right, they are the standard single shot target stocks. The .22/32 Target usually had walnut extension stocks of the same design.

SN 435013 indicates gun manufacture date mid 00's (1904-5-6??), so special order on that gun? Patent date on grips Aug 30 '92. Would this be correct for the target model grips??

Any help with single-action notch will be greatly appreciated..Thanks

I'd like to have a pair of those grips. Sure would make my .38 DA a lot more comfortable to shoot.

Pull the sideplate off and check for 100 year old gunk. There's a chance that the single action notch is just dirty.
Hammers do turn up from time to time on GB. You might have to buy a parts gun to get a good hammer.
Any good gunsmith should be able to recut the SA notch.
Added: Check the mainspring tension screw or try adding a thin spacer shim between the screw tip and the mainspring if the screw has been shortened. There's a chance that lack of mainspring tension is causing the SA problem. Many people mistakenly loosen or shorten the strain screw trying to get a lighter trigger.

If you determine that those aren't the 'correct' grips that shipped with that gun, and you want the right ones, I would trade you an absolutely perfect set of standard size black hard rubber grips + some cash for those.
The set I have still shows the patent dates which are ALWAYS worn off.

I hear ya. Haven't shot this one yet but with these grips off that frame seems pretty small.
