I love hearing that someone found a clean 27-2 3.5" with tools at their local gun shop for $800 or $900 It gives me hope! My LGSs have had only one in the last year and a half. That was a decent 8 3/8 barrel and I bought that.

Are they all on GB & AA? Best case scenario is that a member knows of one or better yet has one to sell.

My wishing well is bone dry.

Edit: posted on WTB/WTT forum.

They are out there, good things come to those with an over abundance of patience. I got two in less than two years both under the six fifty range one with box and accessories.
Good luck to you!

I picked up a very nice Pre 27 31/2 at my local lgs about three years ago for 500. They may have thought it was a combat magnum.

Well the only thing I found was two m27-2 revolvers one was $795 and the other was $895. One in nickel @ 99.9% finish and the other in blue @ 99.9% finish no boxes or screwdiivers but both revolvers have the football target stocks and target hammers & triggers.

My three m28' s also have awesome condition finishes too.

Price wise I've seen higher priced one's in lesser condition. I think I did ok pics to follow soon New camera.

My best s&w best buy ever was my 1948 k22 with gold box, screwdiiver and cleaning rod. The 6" k22 had slight freckling but the Simi chrome polish slightly removed it to show a 99.999% condition bluing.
I paid $695. Again I see lesser condition k22' s selling for $1,500 and there newer.

Remember value wise were paying with our paper money that's about worthless and look at the treasures were buying. There priceless. We don't get much for a buck nowadays. A thin burger that's about it.

It's condition vs. price plus+ how bad you want it.

But to me the value is in the condition. Plus the gun speaks to me. Then I lose control if I can afford it. I'm addicted, I have it bad, I browse night and day just looking every chance I get. It keeps me out of trouble.

I received my new early s&w book now I'll learn something about the older s&w revolvers(38/44)+.

M27-2 serial N392847. Blue with 3.5" barrel and Magna stocks. Manufactured c. 1976, purchased NIB 1981 for $350. Stolen 6/21/85 and not seen since.

How's that for a story of torture?

One of my LGS I think gets an idea about the going rates online and sets his prices from the net. Like I said before every s&w is like $695/$750 to $1,200.

My LGS does not even bother putting the Smiths in the showcase,They go straight to GB.

I don't know if this counts but I really wanted a 3 1/2 or 4" 27 bad.
I hunted for a couple months and had to settle for one that was scratched up,non original stocks, and worse yet wasn't even a 27 yet.

It is good at cook outs though

Beautiful Paul, You trying to make the guy jump off a trolley or what :D Ivory grips?

Like the wood fire ribs anyone? My local supermarket just had pork country style ribs $1 lb. Yummy good. A taste of summer with snow piles 6'+ around me. That BBQ will be smokin this summer. I need to fabricate a whole pig roaster. Sorry I'm hungry.

But really I haven't seen s&w n frames in 30+ years in the used case in my LGS. Now the past few years there around like popcorn?

Is it bad times or are they traded in on plastic guns.

One picture is worth a 1,000 words. :)

I bought most of these in the 80's and early '90's. Many were Texas LEO guns. In those days you couldn't give away a 27, let alone a 3.5" gun. Everybody wanted the 8.375" barrels.

Modesty prevents me from saying what I paid back then...

Let's see 1 thousands, 2 thousands, 3 thousands 4+ etc. Lots of $$$ there.

Ok, here's mine: Last year I was about to leave the Phx gun show. I decided on one last look at a table that had mostly Kimbers and such. In a display case I saw a nickle 357 which turned out to be a 3 1/2" 27-2, with Coke bottle grips on it. A set of S&W wooden Service grips was beside this, which he said went with it. The Service grips were numbered to this 27. The gun was easily 97% condition. I tried to put on my best "not really interested" face, and asked how much he could come down. My need for this gun must have been obvious and he didn't move on the price. I paid him the $650 and left with my new 27-2.......

December 2012 I was looking at Armslist just after Christmas. I saw a listing for an S&W 357 with a four inch barrel. Had a fair photo of one side only. The catch was it was three and a half hours away and it was raining and icy. I decided to bite the bullet and make the seven hour round trip. Turns out it was a pre-27, five inch, 90+ % with a set of unrelieved targets on it that had been refinished and someone tried to relieve. Turns out it was one of those that some people say was made from a frame lost in the factory. It is a five screw with a serial number higher than some model marked three screws. I tried to haggle but he would not come off the price so I gave him the $400 he was asking and drove home (with a smile on my face).

There are still deals to be had. The hunt is what keeps me interested in the hobby. There have been times when I kept missing out on deals and just as I'm ready to throw in the towel, and start collecting Beanie Babies instead, the clouds part and a ray of sunshine peeks through.

I picked up my 27-2 in '05 or '06 form a fellow Trooper's father. I wasn't actively searching for a 27 at the time. A co-worker called me with the: "You're into guns, right?" conversation. "My dad has a big .357 Magnum for sale. I think he said it was a Model 27. It's in nice shape, you want it for $350?". Why yes. Yes I do. The stocks are from a .44 magnum, but it came with the box and a pigskin Lawrence holster. Stay in the hunt!

All of the old timers here will remember Many's (lowriderfxr) "wheel" of 3 1/2" 27's,a total of 13 iirc. I still to this day attribute the current craze for these guns to that damned wheel. YMMV. Well,he caught the reg mag bug and sold 'em all off. This was the last "spoke" off of that wheel. Price back then? $650 shipped. It remains unfired.

Lets see. Last year I picked up this rare 6.5" Pinto Pre-27 with Red Ramp front site for $699. sent the request to Roy and got my letter back confirming its legit..

Then last week I picked up this 6" Model 27-2 from a co-worker for $250. Just missing the rear site assembly, but he did give me a rail and an Aimpoint 1000 for it.

I'm in the process of trying to get a 4" Model 27 from another guy at work, but he doesn't know whether he wants to sell it yet or not. He said he'll almost definitely sell it upon retirement. Should be right around $100-$150.. :p
