Mom handled this well:

she didn’t chat, warn or employ silly commands (eg: stop or I’ll shoot, hands up, drop the gun);

she didn’t expect that her pistol was a magic wand she could simply display that would make the bad guy stop being a bad guy;

she took cover AFTER she shot him but while he still had control of the gun then she disarmed him.

Great training I’ll bet.

Good for her.

This also shows that being shot is not always final. The bad guy was still a viable threat even after he had been mortally wounded. She did the right thing by seeking cover immediately and then assessing the situation.

It looks like after she plugged the guy and he dropped, he was going to fire back at her. Thankfully she retreated behind the vehicle for cover and he didn’t take a shot. No telling who might have been hurt.

When I first saw this I thought she handled things like a street cop and from what I read later, she is. You never know what’s true on the web but this lady is a pro! I hope things went well for her in the aftermath.

Receiving well deserved recognition.

Quick thinking and no hesitation saved the day and prevented a bad situation from getting worse.

you notice she was carry with an empty chamber as she racked the slide an instant before moving forward and to the right to clear the woman and child fleeing to the right behind him !! since there is no sound we don't know if any commands were given but I don't think so because he didn't react to it if she did .. no reaction from him till the first shot then the surprised look on his face as the 2nd and third shot is fired into his chest as he fell backwards !!

I don't think she racked the slide. It looks like she was taking the safety off with her off side hand and getting her grip settled.

Anyone know what they are carrying?

She's an off duty cop, I imagine she DID yell commands to him. At :28-33, I see him talking to her (probably begging her not to shoot him again), so I assume she's talking to him.

Alot of Countries require carrying on an empty chamber. Israel is the same way. I think it's a good idea, as they have proven, in Israel, that racking and shooting is just as fast and ALOT safer. ALL depends on what you practice.

Btw, she did NOT wait for the Mom and daughter to move. When she took her 1st( and 2nd) shot, the Mom and daughter were in the line of fire. Luckily the bullets didn't go through the BG and strike them. Too many folks here (USA) carry too hot of loads, that over penetrate. Like the saying goes," Every bullet has a lawyer attached to it". Why I carry Glaser Safety Slugs (best I can do- it will show in court that I'm conscious about harming an innocent bystander- those that carry vicious, meat grinding, HP rounds, need to think about that, a AG/DA will use that against you) and highly hesitate to shoot in a crowd.

Also, too bad , she took cover behind the car, but then they got in and took off.

Kinda looks like a Sig to me, but Brazil has about 17 gun mfg, with Taurus being the most popular, so Im gonna guess Taurus.

Disturbing??? I could watch that all day! Very good job by the off duty officer, bonitinha tambem!

I used to travel to Sao Paulo Brazil, years ago, there were always lots of pick pockets and purse snatchers on the streets. Lots of cars didn't have A/C so another favorite was to lift briefcases, purses, or watches off wrists, through the open window of a car at a red light. Street thieves weren't usually armed back then, looks like things have changed, for the worse.

In self-defense situations you don't always get the choice to clear the background. I still think she did the right thing and I think she saved several people that day and many others that would have been attacked in the future.

It doesn't look like she said anything until after the shooting. At least there's no reaction from anyone that would support that she did. But she didn't need to say anything, the intent here is clear.

Carrying with an empty chamber is never as fast as carrying loaded. I don't care what you think you've seen or heard, it's not. Physics tells us that it can't be. Further, what if you don't have both hands available? The slide can be racked with one hand, but then it's really slow. Further still, racking the slide is the most likely time to have a malfunction. I would at least want to get that first round.
