Gotta sell of some S&W revolvers. Should I consign at 10% or try and sell them here? I am somewhat pressed for time. I don't want to take a bath, but. In anyones experience in selling here (S&W forum) vs local shop, news paper, which I perfer not to do, any advice? I did not think I would ever be in this situation, but you would never have expected our country go as it has. The next gunshow is aways off. I would post the list of all NIB items, but this is not the place. I have been selling and buying, trading guns for a long time, but never with a time/pressure to sell. For those who have used the forum, what has been an average to sell. I understand, pending the gun of course. Thanks.

Your ad here may have more people see it that are interested in S&W than a store would have.
Take your time, think through what you have, what you want and do what you will.
The forum might work well for you.
If it doesn't get results in a few days, delete and do something else.
Good luck.

That is proably the best advice. If time was not an issue, I could finance some friends, but unfortunatly alot of them are in the same boat as me. If my buisness would pick up, problem solved. But it does not look good this year.

Besides, they'd be going to people that you sort of know that way, too!
The peace of mind knowing they're destined for good homes and all.

If you have NIB guns they will be bought quickly here if you aren't asking extremely high prices. Might want to check with your local FFL and see what he's going to charge to ship them. That is unless you can send them straight from you to the buyer's FFL. You don't mention what state you are so it depends on that. If you are in one of the many free states you should be able to ship them straight to the buyers FFL as long as it's not CA. CA will have to cme from an FFL to an FFL in CA. In the long run, you will probably do better selling them here than waiting for them to sell on consignment. I've bought...a few guns here and have had nothing but the best experiences.

Can you put guns up as collateral for a loan? Consider the sell price less the shipping and FFL cost compared to the interest on a loan. Which is the better net? Is the business really able to be saved? Should you cut your losses now? Can you work a part time job to solve the problem? There are a lot of questions that only you can answer and you should be sure that selling your gun collection is the right answer. Good luck.

I agree, give the classifieds here first shot. I doesn't cost anything and you know the customers are trustworthy.

And if you have non-S&Ws you need to sell, list them here too. Many of us have other interests as well. ;)

I hate to hear about your situation. I would put them here first since this is where the Smith lovers are. I have always had good luck selling guns here. As long as you can post pics you are golden.
Good guns at a good price sell fast here for the most part. If your prices are good I would anticipate selling some the first day. That would put some money in your hand within 7 days or so.
Just remember that handguns must he shipped next day air so that is at least $50. If you can find an FFL to ship them for you for less that is even better as long as he is trustworthy.
Good luck. Good stuff in good condition seems to sell fast and for top dollar. Beat up stuff that is still mechanically sound usually sells fast at bargain prices. It is the average stuff in average condition that takes longer to sell unless the price is nice.

I'd take them to an FFL I trusted, who had reasonable consignment charges, and have him list them on Gunbroker starting with a one dollar bid and no reserve. They'll sell.

If you know a good dealer who will be fair, I'd try consignment.

Posting on here first couldn't hurt. Even for a day or two to see if you get any bites.

Regardless of where you sell the single most important aspect of selling is the presentation. You need good, clear pictures that show the guns to their best advantage. I'd list them here at your absolute best price. give it 3-4 days and go to gun broker.

I'm with nisamo.A consignment gun could sell the next day..or the next year.

I appreciate all the advice and kind words. I am in Florida, north west Fl. After a long sit in front of the safe, I belive I can sell 3 maybe 4 and hold off the wolves for now. It does not sound like much, but right now every little bit helps. I have sold a few other guns to help out til now, other mfgrs, the S&W revolvers have been kept back for as long as I can. I will post the ones I will sell here. However when it rains it pours, my computer is acting up, so I am going to figure out another way to put pics up. I guess I can take a pic with digital camera and have it scanned and then post that way. Thanks again everyone.

I know its hard to sell your guns off. I know I had to do it myself. I feel sorry for you. I hope things will pick up soon for everyone. Good luck and God bless you

I have been giveing some light thought to the same idea. I have a lot of nice stuff I havent used in years and getting old, and money and wants crossing over each othet. While most my stuff is classical fine old firearms many of you would slobber over, I hate the hassel of non face to face. I am the type of guy who will honestly tell you every flaw that you may not see, I refuse to argue with some nitpicker trying to beat me down after a mail order deal! "There she is, take her or leave her!" What does bother me though is the thought of haveing my wife getting took after I pass!
Many years ago financing a divorice I had a fine gun shop sell some on I think 15 percent commission and it worked well and fast with no problems. Also many years ago I was very active haveing tables at gun shows, and all went well, except the ex ran off with some of my best guns with a guy who set the shows up!

If your dealer only charges 10% for consignment, that's a great deal. The dealer I use charges 20% and he's the lowest one around me. The classifieds here are great, but selling that way does take a bit of work, and time.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I'd hit Gunbroker. I've never put a minimum or reserve on any gun(s) sold there and I feel I've gotten as good a price as the gun warranted. And I think you WILL get a better price there than anywhere else. Yes, even better than here (unless you are selling a "collectible" that would require an expert to know of it's real value).

If you must part with them, then I'd use a 3 pronged approach. 1. List on Forum for a couple weeks. 2. Then have a (reliable) consignment dealer post on Gunbroker for another few weeks, 3. Look for a Gun Auction locally that use's internet bidding. Then all guns will be sold and you have to take what they bring. In my experience, the auction brings as much or more and most have a "buyers premium" and the seller does not pay a commission.

+1
It would be great to sell them here on the forum, But GB will fetch a higher price and with a 7 day auction you know they will sell without alot of questions.
I have put a couple here, and a couple on GB in the past year.
