Toys for the 15-22

There is a gun show this weekend close to my home, what are some inexpensive add-ons I can get for my new 15-22? It has a ATN digital reflex sight and the MBUS flip up sights already. I'm looking at spending about another $100.00 to $125.00. I don't have the gun yet to take with me, it is preowned & has to stay at the LGS for 15 days before they can release it.

Mags are a must, but not ASAP, it came with a 10 and 25 round mag.

Start here, First, figure what kind of shooting you want to do. Then purchase the proper optics, mags, accessaries to tailor to that kind of shooting. Also know the weapons limitations and capabilities. Remember, although the 15/22 looks like an AR15, functions like one, but shoots the 22LR, you are looking at close up type shooting scene. CQB up to 100yards. So save your money and don't put a big *** scope that you can see the crators of the moon on it. A good Red Dot with iron backup sights will do just fine. If using it for pest control a 4x32 power or 9x32 works. Good luck, this it really the fun part, building your own custom AR15/22..

Pinking and maybe some rat shooting is the main functions for this one so far. My 9 yr old will be shooting it also. I'm thinking this will be a great family gun. I've already desided to get some rail covers & a laser or light for it too.

What about a sling? What would be a good sling for it? Show is tomorrow, I can't wait. Picked up a couple of 25 round mags from 44mag.com today. This could get expencive, there's alot I want to do.

Cal, those look great, I'll be looking for those tomorrow at the gun show. Paracord Joe, I've never made my own sling but I do like the paracord sling idea. I checked out your site, might put in an order for one for my Marlin 336 but I'm thinking a tactical for the 15-22.

All the money spend on an M&P15-22 is money not available for your AR15. Just saying. I use mine for 4¢/round shooting vs 30¢.

My M&P15-22 is setup to mimic my full caliber rifles but I ain't spending money of $100 Magpul stocks, the one on the rifle does just fine. Likewise a Sight Mark clone aimpoint goes on the clone carbine.

But much of this fits both rifles.

Chuck, that's a good point. I didn't spend as much as I thought I would today at the gunshow. Just got some rail covers, and a dual mag clip. $15.00 in all, even got in free thanks to a vender buddy.

I think I'll start saving for a S&W M&P 15 in 5.56 now. I don't even have the 15-22 yet and I already am addicted to these black rifles. I can't wait to get my hands on my new one on the 22nd.

OK at the show yesterday, I saw a bunch of angled fore grips. What is the advantage of them? I also saw a whole lot of the plastic fire grip bipods for like $25.00. They seemed cheaply made and don't lock into place when open. Are they any good, or just a good rest?

Cal, I noticed that you listed a 36" tactical case, would a 42" be too big or just a little extra room?

A 36" case (5.11 Tactical) is plenty big enough for my 15-22; I keep my CTR stock on position 2 (counting fully closed as '0') and there's plenty of room. A larger case would be unnecessarily unwieldy, unless wanting to use it for longer long guns too...
