had my sigma for about 2 years now.. first firearm purchase, only the second gun I have ever shot.. none of that business with the trigger ever bothered me, after all, it was my first.
Now im a little bit older and notice the subtle differences between models, (still dosnt bother me.) Anyhow, I was thinking of either A: getting the trigger job, The GS i bought it from said if i ever wanted to he would do it free of charge to me.. Or perhaps trading it in for the M&P.

Any thoughts, Oh and If I do get the trigger job done, what would that do to the resale value.. I know im talking about miniscule amount for trade offer, guy said he would give me 150 for it right now. Pretty decent trade offer for a gun with 2k+ rounds through it and only costs 280 new. Hell, with the 2k rounds. It's finally broke in. I should ask for 180.

any thoughts guys?

Jc, first I own both guns. I bought the M&P first. The M&P is a very good and more expensive gun obviously. It's even better with an Apex dcaek. The sigma is also a very good gun in its own right for alot less $. You say the differences don't bother you, but it seems to me it might be. Something is giving you the itch. For me, I would not be interested in buying a Sigma if I suspected it had some one off gunsmithing done to it. I'd want it stock or worked on by S&W, who by the way, from my personal experience is doing some nice work lately smoothing out the trigger. I plan to keep my Sigma and enjoy it for what it is. I look at it this way; where can I get a solid gun that I know with a lifetime warranty for under $200?

Good luck and happy holidays!

I agree. Keep the gun and get a trigger job. If I were you, I'd send it to Smith and Wesson complaining about a gritty trigger, maybe mention the pull weight and see what they can do. Icemn hit it right on the head, where else are you going to find a solid gun with a life time warranty for $180?

I would try and ship it to S&W instead of one of their service centers. Heard of some problems with service centers, and I know, you hear something bad about everything if you listen enough. But I just like the manufacturer, then if something else goes wrong they don't ask questions.

The trigger job is not something that you need to have someone else do for you. I have had mine for about 7-8 months and did it myself. works great to this day. If you do the trigger job yourself, you will know how everything goes together so you can put everything back together if you want to or chose to sell the gun, if you keep the parts.
I personally like my 40ve and have never had a problem with it that was the guns fault. I had 1 round explode in the chamber last Tues. But that was because it was bad ammo, Wolff. there are not alot for guns that you can have that happen to and still have a great operating firearm. My Sigma, after I cleared the exploded shell from the barrel i fired an additional 100 rounds through w/o incident.
If you due a trigger job, go to the web and find out how to do it. First remove the pigtail spring (takes under a minute to do) and see how you like it. If you still would like a lighter pull remove the other spring as I did. This will take it down to about 4-5 lbs. They have other things you can do to lighten it even more. Just whatever you do don't add replace the FP assembly spring with the Wolff spring. So many people have broke the assembly in the proccess. If you don't, the Wolff spring works great for the first couple hundred rounds and then the trigger starts to not reset itself. If you don't keep the other parts this will be a problem.
I think you should keep the gun and if you want to get another gun, more power to you. Besides learning how to do some smithing on your guns is a great feeling and gives you confidence to go beyond what the manual says when you want to give any of your other guns a good cleaning and will save you some money.

excellent advice on doing it yourself. +1
and if you really think about it, whats an additional $150? a month or two of casual savings? might as well keep it, send it to s&w or do it myself. Thanks for the brain storming. It's nice to have a place to bounce ideas around.

I've only sold a couple guns in the past twenty years and regret selling both. I'd keep it and do the trigger job.

150 bucks isn't really that much nowadays anyhow and IMHO your giving it away at that price.

I tend to agree with the idea of keeping the gun. It will be a great baseline for comparison for your future purchase of a SD or M&P. It will also be a great "truck gun" or backup gun. You won't get much out of it, in terms of resale, but if you have it and it works, it is "equal" to a $1000 H&K or Sig, isn't it? I mean, its like a car -- sometimes, it is better to have a beater, and a beater or a Mercedes get you there just the same.

I have done some amateur improvements to my M&P's (Apex kits) and will soon install the new Apex spring kit it at least one of my SDs. As someone pointed out, it does help you understand and appreciate the pistol, and have more confidence in it. It is a mistaken idea, I think, to try to tune the Sigma down to a 3 lbs trigger, hoping to get that Sig or M1911 feeling. The Sigma is just fine with a robust and fairly long trigger pull as a self-defense gun -- especially if you are already used to it!

Later, buy the M&P, and install the Apex kit (or get the M&P Pro), and you can still enjoy your Sigma for what it is -- a good working gun. But you will start to love the M&P... (I love my SD's, too).

I traded up to a full-size M&P9 after having my Sigma for about a year. I don't regret it. I shoot it more accurately with the shorter, lighter trigger pull, and it's got a bit more cool factor.

Even if I'd improved the trigger on my Sigma, it was inevitable that I'd eventually end up wanting an M&P. That's just me, I guess.

trigger job

After you do your trigger job and remove the two unnesessary springs, Spray some WD-40 on the metal components in the sear block. I was experimenting this morning and thought WTH and did it. This replaces the other lube in that area. I took it to the range and had my buddy do a trigger weight test, 3 lbs. the gun still fired without a hitch. I am not sure how it will do with all the spings or even just without the pig tail spring but I am sure it will improve the pull or at least loosen the springs up.

The pull was never an issue for me. Something that I learned on and I'm scary accurate with it at 7yrds. lol who isn't at that distance, right? Not saying all in the 10 ring. but definitely not placing outside of 9s. I'm iching for something different. Think im going to keep and just put some money down on something else.

welp some breaking news.
I took the sigma in for its second appraisal, this time at the shop I bought it at.
the guy said he would give me 175 for it or 200 if I traded it in on a glock.
I had some time to kill today so after dropping lunch off to the wife I went back to the shop and checked out the glock 17 and 19.
Thinking about biting the bullet I said I'd be back later feeling fairly confident Id be putting a trade in on the 19.
Heading back twords the wife's work I decided to stop by the gun range thats an M&P supplier. Telling the range master what was going on he goes.. "man thats a hard deal to pass up, ill do it." I go yea man I know he sells his glocks for the same price as your M&P's but Id rather have the smith." He goes "alright, I'll match it." Excellent! Come tuesday Ill now be a proud owner of a new full size M&P 9mm.

Much better choice! The Glock is over rated.

would of liked to have the pro version.. the longer barrel just looks so perrty

But now you don't get to have the experiece with getting a $300 gun to do what a $600 gun does for noth'n. You also don't get to get in all these "***" discussions about all the stupid stuff people do, don't do, can't do or won't do. Its like the week before BT and AIT all over again.

my 300 droller gun works just fine. I put allot of hours into it.. Wife said I cant have more then one caliber sooo.. whats a man gonna do?
