Trigger for AR

Need to replace the trigger in my ar., just not light enough. What have you gone to. Difference between two stage and single? I am not shooting bench rest. As usual thanks in advance.

Before I spent a lot of money on a fancy overpriced trigger I would try a JP enterprises spring kit.Just using the trigger and sear springs improved my trigger pull at least 50%,maybe more. Since you are not doing bench rest stuff stick with a single stage.

I like ALG's QMS -- maintains mil spec in trigger pull and hammer strike, but with a slightly lighter and notably smoother package; won't break the bank, too.

Otherwise, for my preferences the only games in town are Geissele and Wilson Combat.

I have replaced the trigger in 3 of my ARs. In my Colt HBAR Match Target, I replaced it with a JP Enterprises 2 stage trigger, so I could stay NRA Service Rifle legal. For the Match Rifle I started to build, I think that I also used a JP Enterprises spring kit, don't quite remember, it was pre-concussion. For my Long-Range AR, I installed a CMC single stage trigger. For the designated purpose, I am quite satisfied with these triggers.

If you're competent with gun-smithing, there are simple things you can do with a stock trigger group that will improve it substantially. Lightly cleaning up and polishing the parts on the surfaces that come in contact with each other. But you need to know what you're doing if you plan on touching the sear! Otherwise you could make your weapon very dangerous, and have an unintended discharge, and possibly kill someone!

The stock springs can be easily modified to lighten the trigger pull. Youtube has numerous instructional videos on these processes. Some are well done by experts, with good advice. Others, not so much, and again, you could end up with a unsafe rifle!

I have a Geiselle on my 20" hvy, great trigger but pricey. It is a 2stage but the take up is barely noticeable.

I have a 3 lbs. Timney single stage in all 3 of my AR's. While they actually test at 3.5 lbs. there is no pre-travel at all and the break is as clean as an S&W revolver in single action. Downside is the are not cheap however by timing the purchases I managed to pick up two of them when they were on sale at Midway.

Ditto on the Timney 3 lb single stage drop in have two of them. Use them for PD shooting, lightened them to a safe and reliable 2 lb by changing one small coil spring in the Timney with a assortment of multiple small springs from Brownells.

There is another trigger, Velocity that looks like a clone of the Timney but have never tried one yet for a lower price than the Timney, google it $134.95
