I read somewhere about the do's and do not's concerning self defense shootings. The trigger mod just keeps ringing in my head. The article stated that it is best to not alter the trigger in any way, kinda like using hand loaded ammo, they can make a case that the self defense shooting could actually be pre-meditated. Its terrible that when someone tries to harm a person and the person's family that the would be attacker might be able to press charges against the victim.
Has anyone else ever read or heard that trigger jobs can cause problems for a victims case in a defensive shooting?

My SW9VE is completely stock! I read any trigger jobs would void the warranty. At 1400 rounds through my Sigma, the trigger is not a problem at all. Last weeks range visit I was bunching up rounds well.

I am going to purchase a new sear block assembly for mine, I want it back to stock.

I'm inclined to doubt that those issues are primary ones; if the shooter's behavior is just terminally stupid and negligent to begin with, they're just collateral things a lawyer can throw on the bonfire for good measure. And will.

Once upon a time nobody thought much about handloads and at one time I carried them in duty weapons. The same with sensible mods. The truth is that nowwadays factory ammo is better anyway, and it just makes sense to have any mods made by either the factory or a very reputable smith. All most all law enforcement agencies strictly prohibit monkeying with duty weapons for very good reasons. Governmental entities are where the deep pockets are and everybody knows it.

In a litigous society you sit with your back to the wall.

After reading all the "self-proclaimed internet gun rules" posted all around the net I decided to ask my state's Attorney General about the trigger mod or customization issue. His answer was short and sweet: "if your actions were legal and justified, it won't matter if you altered the trigger or not". A later discussion with a couple of long-time criminal prosecutors yielded the same results with the added info that if your guns fires unintentionally because of the trigger mod then you would be liable. I have asked many times on many gun forums for someone (anyone) to bring me a case where someone was successfully prosecuted who would have otherwise been justified because of a trigger job or gun customization or a case where someone was found liable in a civil case because of the same. 10 years since I first asked and no one has found one.

One thing about the Sigma, it seems to be a long and deliberate, steady 8lbs of pressure. Accidental discharges are probably going to be a minimal. Its good to know that there are people who use their heads. I have a friend who had to shoot some in self defense, and the guy he shot had a rap sheet as long as your arm. But there were still a few that made the attacker out to be a choir boy, despite what he had just done to get shot.
